Lenovo's about to release the ThinkPad X1, with relatively beefy specs and the MBA's form factor. Do want. It's freakishly expensive though (almost $3K). http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/23/lenovo-thinkpad-x1-shows-...

I'd always thought [PDF] was a warning about a direct link to a PDF--some people don't like having PDFs download or open without warning.

To flattr the OP or HN? If it's the first one, that could be deeply controversial (see also: the squawk on Metafilter about the same thing).

Thanks for that. It taught me something new, and also encouraged me to look at the man page again. Now, I have the following keyboard shortcuts (the first two came by default): PrtSc - Capture entire screen; save in ~/images with time

I like and agree with the article, but: an attempt was made to port part of that code (the planner) from Lisp to C++. After a year that effort had to be abandoned because the planner team just couldn't make it work. I'

I'm sorry the "neither" didn't go into more specifics (like both PCs and Macs | use Linux or *BSD | use something crazy like Haiku or KolibriOS | don't really use computers). I'd also like to see a comparison of Linux and Mac users.

Why the heck don't they teach interesting, non-plug-and-chug stuff like this in high school math? Every month, I get a little more resolute in my belief that the standard HS math curriculum needs to include a semester or two on number theor

Agreed. Here's the exact error message I got: error: java.lang.Exception: Unable to resolve symbol: frobnicate in this context So I really thought I'd misspelled it or messed up my namespace or just broken the compiler :/

I am very new to Clojure and only semi-experienced in CL, but I ran into a problem today that left a pretty bad taste in my mouth. I had something like: (defn foo [bar] (let [whatnot (+ bar 3)] (frobnicate whatnot))) (d

On the left is my personal computer, on the right is my work computer. Hardware - Lenovo Thinkpad T60 | IBM Thinkpad T40. Both have a 1400x1050 screen and ordinary specs. I tried to get a second monitor, but couldn't sort out the drivers. O

Three weeks ago, I was at a science fair demonstrating a genetic algorithm that would create AIs for two-player boardgames, and included a test case with tic-tac-toe. Guys from the IEEE talked to me at length, loved it, and gave me their gr

I'll be interested to see how people are writing in a few decades. I can't imagine that Unicode won't be almost exclusively used--with ASCII reserved for BIOSes and such (even now, we're getting close)--and surely most Americans will one da

"Oh look, Haskell is great! Why? Static typing and concise code and no side effects!" I don't disagree on any particular point, but this is hardly news (on HN, at least), and is rather lacking in substance.
