As a Belgian, it's very surprising to read that Germans would consider moving here to avoid taxes. We're pretty much taxed to death. Though most of our taxes are income taxes (up to 50% + ~13% national insurance contributions) and

Good luck getting solar water heaters to heat your 8liter/minute shower in the winter in those places where water is abundant. The article discusses a realistic approach to save large amounts of energy and to bring more comfort to wate

We basicallly don't have a BI stack. Which is silly, but I guess we've had other priorities.

Do you have a source for those figures? Given the very low energy usage of a passivhaus, 50 years worth of energy sounds like a good deal. But perhaps it would be more useful to compare like for like. How many kWh do we need to erect a pass

I'm not talking T460, I'm talking T460p. It comes with an i7-6820HQ. Also quad core. The T480 comes with an i7-8650U. CPUBenchmark.net scores them 8757 and 8669 respectively. There's no "destroying" of any kind goin

Have you used a recent model? The T490/T590 is pretty awful. They keyboard has been getting worse with each new release. The battery is now integrated. Not enough USB ports. And to top it off, there's no "p" model, which

They also burn oil and gas. Burning plastic waste for energy isn't too bad in the grand scheme of things. Sure, not having pumped up the oil and not having turned it into plastic would have been best. And recycling that plastic into so

SciShow Space recently did an episode on Brown Dwarfs. They suggest that there might be so many brown dwarfs (which are hard to see), that they could account for a large portion of the "missing" mass. And there's a theory tha

IIRC it was done that way as a way to follow the optimal path, instead of eyeballing it and taking corners too wide and adding more distance. Might not seem like much, but he had to shave off less than a minute of his previous attempt, so e

When I was a child, I really hated having to cut my nails. One of the reasons why I developed an interest in technology, is that I wanted to build a device that cod take care of this horrible job for me. Insert hands, and bam, nails trimmed

That's fine when you live in a house. Not so relevant when you live 20 storeys up. I feel like way too much time and effort goes into improving single family houses, as opposed to larger multi-family buildings. They could be built to b

I wish more devices would run on PoE. It's DC, it's easy to install, it carries power and data. There are some (but few) PoE light fixtures, but not as many as I'd like.

The paper seems to be Israeli, so presumably they mean the fake horseradish wasabi (which usually includes a tiny amount of real wasabi), as it's very rare to find real wasabi outside of Japan in meaningful quantities.
