I should have been more clear in my comment, I was referring to international high speed trains. Including mandatory registration of passengers and keeping the data for X years. Presumably these passenger manifests are also exchanged with

I got lyme disease after my first and only (as far as I know) tick bite. A round of antibiotics seems to have killed it, though I am still noticeably more tired than before the infection (anacdata, could just be because I'm getting old

There are so many people out there who pay someone 500eur/usd for a simple drupal website, and then expect to pay maybe 50/year for hosting, but are entirely unwilling to pay for anything else. After all, they can get dirt cheap h

My biggest gripe with tools like Drupal (& WP and other FOSS CMS like things) is that updating them often seems to break things. You have a custom layout and upgrade? Shit breaks. Have some custom plugins? Shit breaks. After the first c

How much wildlife (or human life...) is killed or otherwise threatened by fossil fuels? I suspect a single oil tanker spill kills more animals than any wind farm.

Interesting. I wonder if anyone has studied what it would take to render fingerprints useless? Like N minutes/day of sanding with Y grit sandpaper? Additionally, I was under the impression that some fingerprint readers looked at the bl

Mostly learnt English online. Bulletin boards. IRC. Reading sci-fi & fantasy. Watching movies. Talking to oodles of internet friends on ICQ and the phone. By the time I was old enough for the compulsory English classes at school -- 14?

English language cultural exports are a large part of it, but so is the internet. I could speak/read/write English years before taking English classes in school. IRC and bulletin boards were largely to blame for that, much more so

I find this very hard to do. Which Android devices do you use? Most of the ones I've touched don't have an obvious way to opt out of google crapware and google accounts.

Moral indignity? Murder? Person? It looks like we have vastly different definitions of each of these words. Scaremongering with no basis in reality is closer to noise than it is to signal.
