In my country, a simple gold band is also customary. When you think "wedding ring", you think "simple gold band". They all look the same.

Certainly, but in the vast majority of cases where the company tells you you've joined a fellowship, that fellowship is very one-sided, and the company wants your loyalty while giving you none in return. That's what the GP is caut

Yeah, it's especially egregious between pro-nuclear and pro-solar activists, where they fight each other while hydrocarbons keep being burnt. It's insane.

It's not that the word "privilege" is triggering people, it's that your comment is exactly the sort of dismissal that leads to the sentiment I described. If someone complains you're too loud, saying "you just d

This is probably less about Basecamp and more about the "straw that broke the camel's back" of people being tired of activists being so loud. Semi-unrelatedly, I noticed something interesting: People who try to solve problem

I don't know if the actual design can do this, but theoretically it would be able to right itself by spinning the bottom prop slowly and the top one fast, so the bottom one lifts it up enough that the top one can help it take off enoug

In fairness, your second paragraph falls victim to the fallacy of "the problem you mention does not exist because solutions to it are too hard". Yes, the things you mention are hard to design/decide upon, but strictly speak

The issue here is that there's a mismatch between the probability distribution and result. In reality, either the equipment will fail some time on entry/initialization and won't be able to complete any missions, or it will

JLCPCB is excellent, but there's nothing rapid about them. Sometimes you just want to iterate on a board, and 4-6 weeks per iteration is loooong . Admittedly, 5.5 out of the 6 weeks is postage, but still.

I don't think it takes a revolution to make a social safety net, ensure good education for every child, and institute free healthcare for everyone, but that probably sounds too close to "socialism" for some people's comf

Right, but that uses some sleight of hand to make the claim that you can/should adjust for bias everywhere instead of at the source, which isn't something everyone finds fair.

So the objection is that rules that don't attempt to fix biases are inherently "biased by default", even though the rule doesn't actually contain bias itself?

In what way do you think that a rule like "the people who have been here the longest should get a bigger share of the company" is unfair to a group of people that is segmented by anything other than "time with the company&quo

I read a summary of the situation and it seemed to me like both sides handled it poorly. It sounded like there was indeed a lot of activism, which is something you don't really want in a workplace, but the C-levels didn't handle i
