I agree. I just bought the app and it offers an inferior experience to icombinator from what I can see. This app doesn't have threading in the comments (you can't see who replied to what), it doesn't have the instapaper functionality, etc

I think the point is that they're still expanding (and hence hiring). See this paragraph: "Though Google is expanding into multiple areas such as operating systems, applications, online books and display advertising, more than 90 percent o

This seems disingenuous to me. First, on the 1984 scandel he cites, Amazon has apologized, sworn they will never do it again, refunded customers money and given customers new copies of the book. Give them a break already. On the "Gay-Rank

I don't fault him for his love of openness above all else. I like open systems too! But I don't think most consumers care. I certainly don't think they obsess over the couple thousand apps Apple's rejected (like we in tech do). They're

I wasn't sure at first (thought Apple might be taking the heat) but this seems to confirm AT&T's claim that it's Apple that has the problem with Google Voice and not AT&T.

This is a situation where numbers can mislead. Microsoft may very well be down 53% since Ballmer took over in January 2000 but do they mention that the Nasdaq, a tech industry bell weather, is down 50% overall for that same time period? (r

The whole point of the phrase FUD is that it's an emotional response. People use it to try to overwhelm someone's rational thought process with Fear. I think you SHOULD use past performance of a corporation as part of a rational thought pr

I'm not saying the patent system doesn't need repair but I don't think the problems are as broad as your example lays them out to be. Whenever someone tries to make such a broad patent it's almost always knocked down by the prior art claus

I have data. I want you to be able to use that data. I create a service so that you can INTERFACE with my data. Again, the reason "Information Architecture" has become a dirty word in most IT organizations is because of these little menta

This is maybe the muddyist thinking I've ever read. He tries to draw a distinction between SOA "Services" and REST "Resources" but it doesn't work because a "Resource" is just the end product of a "Service". So really he's just jumping th

I don't see this getting traction with Google entering the market and Microsoft finally getting it's act together with Windows 7 (which works very nicely on my 1000He). I'm not saying it looks bad. But using Linux requires a sacrifice from

I think that's the point he's trying to make. He's basically just saying "buzz words suck" and then riffing on the term Cloud Computing for a few minutes. It only seems contradictory because Techcrunch framed it as commentary on cloud com

This was inevitable. Apple's shown they'll go after people who tell the truth about them if Apple doesn't want a paticular truth told. So it was just a matter of time before they smacked Stallman down for slandering their OS.

One could just as easily equate high speed internet to Cable television. You don't get charged more for watching more. In the end it's somewhere in the middle. But the reality is that companies are making money now off unlimited access an
