From man git-stash: "Applying the state can fail with conflicts; in this case, it is not removed from the stash list. You need to resolve the conflicts by hand and call git stash drop manually afterwards." Or do I misunderstand yo

Suppose a state decides they're spending too much money on their court system. What would you say if they instituted a 5000% tax on criminal defense services? What would you say if a state decided to impose a 5000% tax on abortion medi

A taxi or a friend who can drive would seem to provide the same benefit, if you don't care about your transport providing life support.

Indeed. It's surprising to me that the Atlantic chooses not to document the Bodo League massacre. Rhee was a butcher, and our support of him is one of the great moral failings of the Truman administration.

The more apt comparison, IMHO, is John Deutch, who did virtually the same thing, but was pardoned by Bill Clinton before his plea deal could be filed.

Look at Arabic; one "language" despite being barely mutually intelligible between, say, Iraq and Morocco.

Private communications are also required for certain crimes, or to cover them up. Should we require that Apple monitor phone conversations for evidence of crime?

It is simply a cost issue. Look at North Dakota during the oil boom, for example. It turns out paying $150k+ gets you plenty of applicants willing to work 120 hour weeks out of a dormitory.

I have a similar setup, and ran into storage problems pretty quickly. Eventually I reflashed it and installed Linux natively, and got a fast 64GB SD card for my home partition.

What about a semi-autonomous fighter, with a pilot to provide low latency input on what to shoot, and the plane deciding how to fly and make that shot independently? You could even have the pilot prone for higher G tolerance, like they trie

A rifle, particularly a short carbine like a Sub 2000, is eminently practical for close range. They're faster to aim accurately and are more likely to incapacitate a target with the first shot. The only exception is perhaps at ranges o

No capital ships took direct hits during operation crossroads. The closest was the USS Arkansas, at 170 yards from ground zero during the underwater baker test. It was lifted all the way to the vertical by the blast, before being pummeled i

I felt Sporkhack fixed most of the problems I had with vanilla nethack. Wishes are harder to get, Elbereth is nerfed, ESP is nerfed, ascension kits are less binary, Gehennom is less tedious, Vlad is no longer a pushover, etc...

Taking LAX for an example... It has a perimeter of 4ish miles. Assume one sentry with a shotgun, loaded with birdshot every 300ft to give decent coverage of the perimeter, that gives us about 60 sentries. At 15 $/hr, 24/7, that gi

Murder rate is probably the only statistic that can be trusted. Police are under lots of pressure to make sure crime stats go down, and it's really easy to misclassify or ignore reports for things like armed robbery or rape. A body is
