This isn’t a security mindset, it is a product development mindset. You run into problems creating these situations like we are discussing when roles across the company diverge and no one is responsible for the big picture. The security guy

I couldn’t agree more. Security is almost always user hostile (speaking from a UX perspective). I am NOT advocating that we remove security for obvious reasons (a hacked app is also user hostile). HOWEVER - if we can just acknowledge that s

Here’s the deal, at two years and for a problem that is by all accounts serious, any solution is better than no solution. Now, if this is code that runs ventilators for sick people, runs the movement of money for a hedge fund, or balances t

I am a big advocate of refactoring bad code, but what you say is SO important. Badly written code that is non-critical or rarely used or simply where all the known issues are known and easily worked around, is not a good candidate for refac

This is going to sound far fetched, but hear me out - I am 55. When I was young I slept like a rock, like most people. Fast forward to a few years ago and I could barely get through the night. I would wake at 3:30am and just not be able to

I would argue that this is because you have the wrong people on the bus . I know that may not be your choice as a manager (you may be stuck with what you have), but make sure you are not misunderstanding the problem. Good, 10x people don’t

There is no way. What I am alluding to is that, the only people who will go down the path of being a junior to senior dev are those that truly love the field. It will purge those that only go down the path because they think it will make th

Is there a scenario where just the people that REALLY love programming start in the field? Could this be a situation where you reduce the field of programmers to only those that are truly passionate about programming, thus making the people

Do you expect that when people are no longer in debt that they will just keep their spending down? Or is it possible that they now have a “wealth effect” and feel like they can spend more? What keeps them from racking up debt again to previ

I agree. What we have seen over the past decade+ has been asset inflation. This is exactly the same as goods inflation (what we are seeing now), except that asset inflation seems like a good thing at first blush. People want their assets to

Ok, here is a thought. In the frame of reference of “commoditizing your complement” (see Joel on software), you could argue that Google has been doing that for years to microsoft, by releasing Chrome, ChromeOS, and Android. This commoditize

Bingo. 10x is not about how fast someone codes. That is why there is confusion here. Of course someone cannot write code consistently 10x as fast or write 10x as much code. On a regular basis? That is nonsensical. When talking about 10x dev

HDR is the problem. If you change it to SDR it looks great! Unfortunately on my ipad I have to turn it to “low power mode” and that forces HDR off. In Apple’s infinite wisdom they do not have a setting to just turn off HDR.
