The problem is not about the vendor at all. It’s not even about Kubernetes. It’s about the problem being solved. I’m not an IC so I get to see all the behind the scenes. We’re just cosplaying a large tech org when this company, like the oth

For my experience, this article is one of the scenes in my personal version of This is Spinal Tap. Three times I’ve been involved in a Kubernetes (or competitor) migration where the plot gets lost along the way. At my current company we hav

Can’t speak for everyone but I have worked in this environment. It can work fine if you allocate a sub slice of CPU time (.1 CPU for example) and small amounts of (overcommitted) memory, and explicitly avoid using it for things that are mor

We lost my wife’s CPAP while traveling. Through insurance it would have been a month of paperwork, an exception made, and $600. Without insurance it was no wait and $650. Guess which way we went… I’m sorry the author had to deal with any of

Yup. Even gross abuses of Redshift run fine with appropriate roll ups and caching. At a past job we did it “wrong enough” that it took a while for a more state of the art solution to catch up. This is not to say the abuse of Redshift should

Is there an advantage to a 300MHz 8051 vs a Cortex M0? Predated their existence? I know there’s a lot of 8051 tooling but I’m only a dabbler in microcontrollers and it seems like AVRs and M0/M3s have taken the place of PICs and 8051s i

That hasn’t been true for the Zen based models at least. The 5700G and now the 8700G occupy the $350-370 price slot. My comparable 13th gen Intel CPU with lesser graphics was the same price. That’s a great value for a casual gamer. I’m sure

With 12AWG, depending on the cable type and rating, you can bring 20-30A (90C rated) of power to go with your fiber in the same pull. The cable might be expensive but I’m sure the use case is great for when you don’t want to spend $10,000 o

Since we’re talking about power distribution in homes, the National Electric Code and local zoning apply. That means low voltage for the purpose of the article will be limited to 0-49v. All solar panels for homes that I’m aware of are under

Principled is defined as “acting with morality and showing recognition of right and wrong.” How is abiding by the decision of a court not following a principled view? Wouldn’t going against the rule of law be non-principles behavior? Appl

IIRC it’s a legal requirement vs just a standard like CCS1. South Korea has the same legal demand for CCS1 so it’ll be interesting to see what happens with NACS there. I personally don’t mind using CCS vs NACS. I didn’t feel super inspired

I’m renting a car and using the chargers in front/near restaurants and the mall. 20 minutes of level 3 charging lasts me a day on a Kia Niro. This car is an ev conversion on a 260v architecture. It’s about 90 minutes from 20-90% at 50k

In the case of my Audi, the starter motor is 48v so the 12v system charges the 48v system enough to start. In EVs the 12v system is used to power a contactor that connects the EV battery to the drive system. That’s the clicking sound you he

Not all of them. The Kia Niro I’m driving as a rental this week has a 240v battery. Level 3 charging it feels wildly slow compared to my car. But yes, you’re right the increased voltages add a lot of risk that has to be managed.

I’m speaking about the power planes. What they drive is irrelevant from the standpoint that higher voltage systems create safety issues that lower voltage systems do not have. No one is going to be ok with “occasionally being shocked by 48v
