This is wonderful, thanks for sharing. Any chance you've got a copy of that on an old hard drive somewhere? I bet the IA folks would love to highlight that.

A particularly annoying side effect of this is that if you want to bring an existing repo into GitHub, the instructions now include `git branch -M main`, which will cause all sorts of problems if you have documentation, aliases and scripts

This was posted in another thread, but I'd never seen it before. French-made. Results seem just as good as Google, PutLocker searchers work, and it's as privacy-respecting as DDG. I've been using it all day and I'm happy

I'm glad to see more competition, but I'm disappointed to see that it's basically a clone. There is so much room for differentiation that nobody is exploring, I'm thinking about taking a shot at it.

I don't get this either. There are new pictures of Hunter Biden smoking crack. Those clearly weren't released previously. Is the claim that these pictures are forgeries, or that they were hacked and then combined with forged email

Weirdly, this article has more points and is younger than some stuff on the frontpage right now, but doesn't appear at all thought it hasn't been [flagged]. Does HN block NYP, or am I just going nuts?

The thing that seems obvious but opaque is the mechanism of coordination. My guess is that the DNC communications director simply has all of FAANG moderation staff on speed-dial and calls them up whenever something like this happens, but ma

I have a very, very different definition of success than Warren Buffett does. I say yes to as much as I can, and my life has been extremely fun and interesting as a result. If I could do it again, I'd say yes more and I'd say yes

This is classic way of reducing CPU usage, just bounce a part of a track to raw audio an play it back so it doesn't need to render in real time. A GPU doesn't really change the equation there. There are some methods of synthesis w

I'm very eager to see GPU acceleration make its way into audio production, which is all still heavily CPU bound. A Free GPUFFT implementation will certainly help! Great work.

That's now how China works. It's a very different mentality - they _only_ care about China, specifically the boundaries of China defined by the "9-dash line." The rest of the world will serve to feed 9-dash mainland Chin

Really, it's just a different thing. It is an entirely P2P network, so yes, that's what you get. But, anybody can run a Tor node too, as the article points out. (Practically speaking, I2P better for torrents.)

I mean, I still like Tor. It depends entirely about what your threat models and goals are. I2P never gets any attention compared to Tor, but it keeps chugging along. In many ways, it's a lot better. Their most recent release was on 202

This has been well known for a long time. It's even vaguely referenced in the Snowden leaks. I wish Tor never became an activist project. There are a lot of groups with nice sounding names like 'Human Rights Watch' - that see

I love records. There are plenty of reasons why records are great that don't usually get mentioned here. * The big one: There is tons of music out there that isn't on streaming services. If you like punk, breakcore, UK dubstep, no
