I think it was much more about one specific use case of lambda that was a bad fit for the prime video team’s need and not a rejection of lambda/serverless. TBH, it kind of reflected more poorly on the team than lambda as a product

I think that’s a little far — mainly the point where science itself is often a rejection of things that were previously called “common sense”. But this can also be expanded. There are no fields of science where a singular paper should be wi

I know it’s a fool’s errand to call out a company so obviously arguing in bad faith like Adobe is in this article. But seriously, what an insulting statement to make — like it’s hard to put “Early cancelation fees up to $180” (a random numb

While it’s not common (from the source code I’ve reviewed over the years), some people make a new type with a name and use that in the definition: ``` from typing import NewType # Create a new type for some_prime SomePrime = NewType('S

This is by design— the rhetoric around crypto was specifically tailored to emulate all the new-exciting-tech talking points in an attempt to get new people to buy in to the market and prop up the next rug pull. Every new culturally signific

I wonder how many zombie firms we’re going to see fall apart when there is a significant economic downturn turn. A lot of companies calling for RTO are gutting morale and filling their halls with many contributors that are only too eager to

Even outside the salary negotiations, it’s astounding to me how many companies are calling for RTO just to have people go to the office and sit on zoom meetings — because the company has several offices. I’m actually ok with RTO, but I’m no

While I will be the last person in line to defend Microsoft, I am not sure that disallowing 3P kernel mods is a workable solution. Crowdstrike and companies like it exist to fill a very real need within the windows ecosystem. I don’t forese

I think this is approaching the end of what this VR form factor can produce. Compact pass through glasses + Dramatically improved “AI” assistants is almost certainly going to be the end goal for what these technologies look like. Google gla

I’m not sure many influential people at Apple would be looking for Tim Cook to resign over this— especially given that Apple is now sitting at a 3.5 trillion dollar evaluation under his leadership.

As someone who spent a lot of time tinkering with jailbroken iPhones back in the day, there was always an ongoing rumor in the jailbreak community (maybe better to call it a myth or legend) that Apple knowingly let jailbreak vulnerabilities

Apple has definitely, definitely soured their relationships with third party developers— but I think the far larger issue is the install base. There isn’t enough AVPs sold to ever recoup the cost of developing a VisionOS native application.

It’s pretty straight forward— you compare the average risk for individuals to the rates for those exposed to carcinogens. For instance, if a population of people develops lung cancer at a rate of 2% by age 70, and a population of smokers ha

It’s harder because it requires piercing the veil of protection of an LLC, a legal construct that is explicitly designed to limit liabilities. There are simply more legal hurdles to this. Though I do agree with the conclusion that the bankr

It’s easy to overlook that OxyContin was very effective. Even a doctor acting in good faith was likely to prescribe the drug— because it worked well. It really did help people struggling with pain management. The downside, of course, was th
