Guess I deserved that. See, my commentary is on the fact that other services have a zero-friction sign-in page that lets you join up very easily and quickly. This is what users expect in 2022. Mastodon doesn't have that. Instead, you h

This article really had me excited. I really wanted to click the "Join Mastodon" button at the bottom of the article. But there isn't one.

The people come first, not the technology. I didn't really start using Twitter until I first knew some people I wanted to communicate with. It will be the same with Mastodon, or whatever. Then the choice of server will become much simp

They have WSJ, Newsweek, Miami Herald, LA Times, San Francisco Chronicle. The main one they don't have (and probably won't ever have) is NY Times. The other major downside is it's only available on Apple devices (of course).

Apple News+ is kinda similar. You get a whole bunch of free news and pay one monthly bill, instead of dozens of bills. I like it so far. I don't know how they compensate the publishers, but I hope they get a reasonable cut.

Okay, what about $10,000? That's what I paid. I took delivery in August 2020 when he was still making the empty promises. Biggest investment failure I've ever had to write off. I guess if it isn't a Bernie Madoff level fraud,

Lane change is also buggy now for my Model Y. Since the last couple updates about 5% of the time it jerks back into the current lane after moving about 50% across the line, as if it had suddenly seen a ghost in that other lane. There is not

The reason I'm thinking maybe it's not so bad, is because which snapshot does it use? How does it know which snapshot of an algorithm is correct and which has a bug? What if you have code that's perfectly fine but then you ad

Do we really need to surface every bug/bot report in Twitter's backlog and then assume villainous intent? Come on. Aren't we better than this?

I suspect the developer selected trees not for their suitability to the environment, but rather for their appearance in order to sell more houses. Perhaps if I knew more I could make them live but that didn't happen. So as they die and

I have plenty of incentive to keep the trees in my own yard from dying, yet I lack the expertise. So they die. I need an arborist. Unfortunately the arborists in my town are incentivized to get me to pay their company to cut my trees down a

"Craziest" is not really an appropriate word for this case. Awful, or shameful, or disgraceful are some more accurate words. Or insane if you want to emphasize the psychotic aspect.

No, teach them better. Management is still needed. A manager should be able to increase revenue, or at least productivity. If all they can do is reduce wages, that's a pretty low bar. Any asshole could do that.

Anecdotal evidence: I have had to replace a device because of a failed USB-C port, but I have never had to replace a device because of a failed Lightning port. I know, it's one data point, but there it is.

They mention the obvious medical uses like spray-on casts and spray-on bandages, but what about spray-on physical restraints? Or spray-on condoms? Get creative, think outside the box.

I think it's a lot easier to manipulate social media than journalism. Stories like this one will always exist because the world is a huge place. On an average day they just get buried in the avalanche of information we have available.
