I think I'm still a bit on the fence after reading this post on whether building out relational queries on top of ECS will ultimately nuke the cache locality and multithreading performance benefits of ECS in the long run. The great pro

I have no doubt that 3d modeling will become commodified in the same way that art has with the dawn of AI art generation over the past year. I honestly think we'll get there within 18 months. My skepticism is whether the technique desc

As a machine learning engineer who dabbles with Blender and hobby gamedev, this is pretty impressive, but not quite to the point of being useful in any practical manner (as far as the limited furniture examples are concerned. A competent mo

There has to be a bigger story to this. Altman took a non-profit and vacuumed up a bunch of donor money only to flip Open AI into the hottest TC style startup in the world. Then put a gas pedal to commercialization. It takes a certain type

Having written Unity, Godot, Unity DOTs, Bevy, an obscure ECS engine called kivent, and even rolled a java engine from scratch at one point I somewhat disagree with this statement. When people think of overhead, they might be thinking of th

ECS isn't just useful for performance. It's a better way to architect games and other sorts of software in a more data-oriented (rather than OOP oriented) way.

Wait, so they have an ECS game engine with a AAA renderer and nanite-like tech along with a lua based scripting engine and Hollywood level facial animation? They should release the engine. It's a solid competitor to Unreal (more scalab

This is simply not correct. City Skylines 2 even went through the trouble of using DOTs which is something you cannot take advantage of in Unreal Engine or Godot. To get more optimal than that on the CPU utilization side, you will be writin

I'm solodeveloping a game, and there's no fucking way a 100,000 vert mesh is getting in the game without a LOD. My game is running on the Quest 2 at 72 fps stable

Exactly, so what is needed is a cheaper version of these weapons. A cheap drone swarm versus a cheap turret swarm built off the browning 50.cal rather than some complex 20 mm chain gun.
