For me personally, be proactive and step up the communication. You wouldn't hesitate to walk over to a co-workers desk and shoot the shit or ask a question about something, so you can't hesitate to call them either. It feels weird

There's a growing list of topics I just entirely avoid online now, and it's a damn shame because I enjoy most of them. Cryptocurrencies, "smart" things or IoT, anything Google related, anything even slightly related to o

That's why I love Flow and Typescript so much. They are as opt-in as you want them to be. I've seen a team use typescript, but have zero types in most of their files, they just used it from libraries to get some IDE autocomplete a

I really hate dismissive comments like this. They laid out pretty well what problems this is trying to solve, why they want it that way, the benefits it has, and some of the tradeoffs it makes. Saying it "replaces composition with conf

Same here, I ended up going into an Audi dealer after the Bolt fiasco, and it was a night and day difference. When I asked a question about a car, they answered it happily! When I wanted to look at a car, they took me to a few. When I wante

So how many layers of verification do you or the companies you work at pay for? How many layers of dependencies do you pay someone to verify? Do they pay others themselves to verify the layers below them? What do you do when someone has a d

I may be wrong, but isn't there an almost unlimited amount of ways that you could determine wallclock time? Any kind of networking access can get it (with enough samples, you can get some crazy precision over even the most inconsistent

V8 has a JIT-free mode now, and it's still pretty damn fast in real world situations. It looks like in synthetic benchmarks they saw up to 80% decrease in performance, but in real-world applications they saw as little as a 6% decrease.

But you can't hope to watch every dependency of every dependency of every dependency all the way down, at some point you need to trust that the code will do what it says. Dependencies don't just end at a package.json. Their depend

For some the money is just a symptom, not the problem. I for instance try to "optimize" things. I overdo stuff, and eventually burn out of it. It doesn't matter if I can make money from it, I'll latch on to just about an

Sadly that doesn't work out so well. Just look at the recent npm event-stream debacle for an example. An author didn't really want to deal with a library any more, someone came out and offered to maintain it, the original creator
