Agreed. I have always felt that technical people approach their jobs from the wrong side. They cram every technical acronym on the CV in the hope that something will stick. They don't understand business. Business wants value. The CV s

I agree. A person has no clue what will happen until one is in the 'game'. Sitting on the sidelines writing a plan is a futile exercise. However, once you are in the game then plans are important.

Certainly possible. Problem is that the issues are very diverse. You have increased carbon, over-population, resource depletion, increased toxins in environment, etc, and each would require very different technological solutions. Also, I th

Any technical solutions to the global issues we face will be thwarted by sociological factors due to our immaturity as a species. Climate, for example, requires cooperation on a global level and all populous industrialised countries must pa

I don't think life can survive itself in order to become super-intelligent. It's easy to see why we have the Fermi Paradox. Homo Sapiens have been around for say 100,000 years yet the last 200 years, as we have become technologica

While I am optimistic about the human race being able to solve the global issues such as climate change, I feel we do not have the political will to do so without getting first to the brink of disaster.

But we allow this to happen across society. The Catholic organisation, for example, has it's own morality. And it is completely accepted that you should not join that church if you do not agree with that morality.

But why do you get to question Facebook's idea of morality? If you don't like it, don't use the service. To question someone's morality solely due to it being different than yours is, bluntly, a waste of time.

Why complicate it? Morality is upto the individual entity whether it is a person, or a business, or a govt-body. For example, I believe there are still 'dry' counties in the US. They have decided that a no-alcohol policy is the mo

I would say that galaxy clusters forming after only 2.6B years is an indication that our models are already wrong.

As our instruments get better, are we going to find these clusters further and further out until we hit the supposed age of the universe @ 13.7B years? Then what? When do we start thinking that maybe the models are potentially wrong?

I wouldn't think so. What they gain in wisdom they lose in baggage. It's like the success rates of 2nd marriages are worse than 1st marriages. You would think that people would get smarter with their 2nd, but it's not the cas

Yeah, I can see your point. I am on the autism spectrum somewhere and I am very fortunate that I do not have the crippling anxiety and self-doubt that the OP and others are grappling with. I quit IBM after 6 years because I wanted to have m

Then you have to make a decision then. Do you want to make revenue from the product, or make revenue via customisations? Problem with the customisation approach is there is limited leverage.

Fruit is OK, you just need to go easy with it though. Most fruits are just big fructose bombs with very little nutrition. Berries are good.
