Wait. I'm reading that differently. I read it as saying $31 billion in revenue since Android was released , not in 2016 alone. That was more than 10 years ago. And of that $31 billion, $22 billion is profit. Finally, a lot of that rev

interesting. in SoCal there are a lot of urban citrus trees growing amongst the houses and apartments, including Valencia oranges. most of the time, the oranges are a bit on the tart side, but there are some sweet ones here and there. IDK w

i'm bothered a bit by the fact that in the cartoon animation the earth appears to rotate only two or three times during an entire 25,000+ year axial precession cycle.

I guess so, yeah. That's what I'm trying to highlight. That's what I find so interesting. There's this juxtaposition of US tourists having a great time and simultaneously a lot of murders -- all in the same city. There&#

after reading this article, i have come to view zero-rating as a form of branding. basically, the internet providers are trying to take a step away from the forces of commoditization. once i viewed it that way, it's pretty predictable

IDK, maybe the "we" goes beyond Instacart to me, as a customer, the vendor-partners (e.g. Costco, BevMo, Ralphs, Whole Foods, CVS, Petco, etc) also seem a bit dirty. i mean, one can ask the question whether they were totally ignor

i stopped using Instacart too for this same reason. i might start to use them again if they refunded all customers all of their tips and paid all of the shoppers a significant extra bonus, as a good faith measure. otherwise, there are bette

so brilliant and so true if I were advising this CEO, I'd suggest sending every shopper who ever got a tip an additional 50% of their lifetime Instacart earnings, just to regain the community's confidence.

This is a situation where the CEO may eventually need to be replaced. The PR stream went negative to an extreme and shoppers have become disillusioned.

If the owners of the almond orchards were, say, thousands of small farmers instead of a billionaire, I think I could put a really positive slant on this story: * The amount of protein one gets from almonds per unit of water is far higher th

It's an economist's term. I do wonder about the benefit to FB users. I just got this from Wikipedia: Consumer surplus is the difference between the maximum price a consumer is willing to pay and the actual price they do pay. If a

I'm skeptical that this "water more valuable than oil" prediction will come to pass. Currently, a thousand gallons of freshwater from a desalination plant costs between $2.50 to $5 to the end consumer in the US. By contrast,

I think that's true, but, in some ways "work" is in the eye of the beholder. I mean, long ago, before the invention of the department store or grocery store, the customer wasn't allowed to just roam around in the aisles

right. more examples of the same. economic gains are unevenly distributed and some workers experience a deep net loss. so, what regulatory or governmental policies and programs did Friedman think could actually help people once they arrive

    by HillaryBriss 8y ago

another perspective: FB's big mistake was paying these users too little. if FB had paid, say, $2000 a month instead of $20, the users would have been angry at Apple for forcing such a program to stop. FB would look like a force for goo
