A Space Planes is needed to land at a runway like a plane. Space Planes are not only much more dangerous, but are not ideal for this type of mission. They carry a lot of extra weight (wings) that would affect how much fuel is needed to laun

Watching that capsule fall out of the sky at high speed from the teaching cameras was nerve wracking! Awesome footage, exciting to watch it live in such detail.

Oh because the astronauts were “really” on the escape zip lines instead of in the rocket? How would they do the zero gravity during the live streams? They have to actually be in space, not even the zero-G parabolic airplane sim can maintain

The existing 16mm film from Apollo is roughly equivalent to 2K, and you can see dust kicked up pretty nicely!

No, it wouldn’t have. Only with cetera peribus would that make any sense. And losing half your population is not “all other things being equal.” It’s a major difference that has a huge impact on output and relative standing globally.

Russia had roughly half the population as compared to the Soviet Union. There’s just no way they could have ever competed on the global stage the same way.

I’m sorry but things are definitely better than they were in the 2000’s. Even this war is smaller scale than Iraq/Afghanistan, and seems like it will be over much quicker. Even the economy isn’t nearly as bad. But the Mars missions, th

I don’t think the criticisms on HN are related to Artemis’ imperfect concept and technical design. They’re almost exclusively related to political reasons. “There are problems in the world, therefore I can’t enjoy this” is flawed reasoning
