Would you have been uninterested in Apollo at the time because of the Vietnam war? Or are you maybe just generally uninterested in space exploration?

Most people don’t care about Apollo 11 period. They know it happened but they have zero interest in it or the history. That’s why the average person doesn’t cares now. They never actually did.

During the Apollo missions, the US was melting babies in Vietnam, amongst other war crimes. Young men were being drafted, taken from home, and forced to kill people across the world. African Americans were fighting for basic rights and equa

That’s not it. Most people don’t even know what Apollo 8 was. The average person thinks NASA’s only mission of note was Apollo 11, they don’t even realize there were 5 other landings.

The basic truth is, the vast majority of people couldn’t give less of a fuck about space and space exploration. It’s just too abstract, too complicated, and too far away for them to feel connected to it. It’s not attached to national pride

None of those are moats, though. None of it is “something competition cannot do.” The concept of moats just has too much weight put on it around here.

The Apollo 8 book I read once ended with a letter to NASA thanking them and saying “You saved 1968.”

I imagine they get a bigger slice of the pie with OpenAI than they do with Google, an extremely mature company who’s had investors buying in for 30 years. Alphabet’s market cap is $3.5 trillion, compared to OpenAI’s $850 billion reported he

Sora was not the only video generation service, it wasn’t even the gold standard. Offerings like Kling and ByteDance are considered much better.

If the definition of slot machine is so vague that it includes LLMs then it’s not really meaningful. If someone only ever paid $20 a month on slot machines AND typically came out ahead, that wouldn’t be any kind of gambling issue. Playing r

That’s so awesome, I had the exact same idea since LLMs came out because I’m a regular Civ player. I thought about trying some kind of mod for Civ IV but never got around to it. FreeCiv does make more sense. Very cool stuff.

Trying to decide whether to refinance now or not feels like gambling too. Yet it’s financially beneficial to make some bet. Defining “Gambling” like isn’t really helpful.

MBA’s have a goal for growth. That doesn’t mean it will happen. Lots of companies fail or shrink. Also, it’s not an MBA/capitalism thing. Every socialist leader throughout history promised more growth, they just thought it should be mo

The system they’ve crafted relies on having enough of a working population to pay for the older benefit-receiving population. Their benefits are so large and unwieldy, they know the whole thing will fall apart if they don’t find a way to fu

I mean the message in The Dark Knight is really messy. The characters believe it’s immoral, but they use it anyway, and it saves lives and stops the Joker.

Yep. Birth control made it so women can choose how many times they get pregnant. Pregnancy is not exactly a walk in the park, so it’s no surprise it’s decreasing as birth control increases. To override this, society needs to make having kid
