I'm worried more about nuclear war, which would very quickly end the human species. Life on Earth would continue but it would not be sapient. Other celestial bodies do not have this problem we've self-inflicted. Why nuclear war? G

We are in deep shit. We can change, or we can die. Continued emissions at our current rate will kill us. We're already teetering at the precipice of feedback loops and may be committed to some. At this point, we need a Manhattan-Proj

There are no market forces which would bring CO2 capturing technologies to the forefront. i.e. it's cheaper just to dump it in the atmosphere. Something like a carbon tax would very quickly make CO2 capture relevant.

We will have our safety net eventually. The pendulum of hopefully slowly swinging to the left. Until then, folks like her are fucked.

How is BlackBerry going to pivot? Does anyone actually care about their software? Don't Apple, Google, and Samsung provide "good enough" enterprise services? If so then I really don't see what their plans are.

I am both surprised and immeasurably pleased at the sight that "too big to fail" isn't (yet) reality for CAs. When it comes to shady shit like this... I would reference the title of Metallica's first album.

Wow. First time I bought a product from them, it had a typo on it - "AC Adater". They've proven that there's still a market for quality products, not just for race-to-the-bottom goods.

I would have to disagree with you there. There's just so much filler that it's impossible for anyone without tons of free time to read it (starting from scratch). Which probably isn't most people on HN.

To be honest, I think the ending is pretty bad. (spoilers) It just had to take the "oh so meta" route. It just felt so way out of left field... not in a good way (a good way would be called a "twist ending" I think). Def

Undertale is a good game. It's not a really great game. Comparing it to EarthBound is ludicrous. Some grievances: The combat system works great on the first playthrough, but once you've figured out how to beat an enemy, the challe

x86 is an Intel standard; they own the patents. Some of the patents have expired at this point but there's new ones which you would need in order to make a competing x86 processor. x86_64 is an AMD standard, I believe still under paten

Aiding DPRK would be a dangerous move. Either their populace starves or their weapons program loses money. If the population starves, there's a huge higher chance of revolution. As terrible as it is, it's a win-win for the interna

I'm aware of Google Location History. I turned it off. In any case, there's a difference between Google storing my location (they don't), Tesla storing my location (they would), and NSA storing my location (they do). Google g

"Autopilot" is "experimental" so whenever there's a problem, they blame it on the driver. I wonder if they have heard of Six Sigma.

Software that can end lives should not be beta tested on customers. Full stop. In no way is it acceptable to give customers "experimental" software, overhype it, and disclaim responsibility when it inevitably fails.
