Almost. A governments is a bunch of people agreeing plus the power of those people to punish those who do not agree, without being punished back.

Wouldn't that be de facto? De jure would mean there is some kind of law. I feel we have the opposite, quickly shifting de facto standards without any place to reference what is "correct" today.

I think you mixed up "du jour" and "de jure" there.

Even if you believe humans should sometimes kill each other (which is not a universally held opinion, but also not insane) you should see all loss of human life as, at best, a necessary cost. To not consider enemy casualties as a cost goes

As you say, such a term would confuse the discussion. But I feel the current term, collateral damage, does the same thing. When someone says collateral damage the image that comes to my mind is property damage, not personal injury and speci

You can buy AppCode. It's based on IntelliJ, so if you are used to taht it's great. But it's not perfect and I usually have both IDEs open when working on iOS (in aprticular, running and debugging are nicer from XCode. I writ

I'm using the same PC I built in 2008. Of course, the only parts I haven't replaced are the Hard Drive, the CPU, the case and the power supply (and I've added several plenty extra storage). I will probably replace the CPU thi

Yeah, in that case I agree with you. Under that definition M-VC just means to separate your business rules from your UI, which is always a wise move. I do think the interesting part that is missing is how you organize everything that isn&#x

Isn't the controller where your bussines rules are encoded? It is probably the more complex part of your app, and it's complexity is driven by business decisions and not technical ones. Unless you mean something different by contr

Hey, be cheap, don't waste effort on negotiation if you are ok with less money! I think that's totally reasonable. Just don't broadcast it that way. It attracts the wrong kind of attention.

My two cents: don't say you are cheap (even if you are). It makes it sound like you are not worth a lot. The employers that are willing to hire you because you said you are cheap are mostly the kind that will scam you with stuff like o

The theory here is that not only are you at 20% for the last hour: you will be at 90% at the beginning of the second day, 80% on the third and so on. Of course the percentages are totally made up, but it is obvious that there is an amount o

For inter-app communication Intents are a pretty reasonable solution to a complex problem. But inside an app, I would just love to have constructor parameters for my activities. I make do with Intents, but I don't have type safety, I h

What I do is write the model and bussiness rules in Java, and I use J2ObjC[0] to export it for iOS. The configuration is not pain free, but once set up it has been extremelly reliable for me. I don't need to support web, but I hear GWT

Absolutely, very little Flash content is being created. But I still think it's not good that we are losing access to waht's already there. It could be this generation's version of link rot (which is still a problem too).

The judge cares. Because the basic tenet of a Republic is the separation of powers, a Judge is not allowed to decide whether or not a law is fair or good for the people; that decision falls on the legislative branch.

If WhatsApp is unable to comply with Brazilian law, should it be allowed to operate in Brazil? I think this is a bad law by the way. Hopefully the clearly negative impact it is having will lead to it's reform.
