I disagree -- it's cutting out the middleman. The actual author is making more money and has more (ie. complete) editorial control over his art. Cutting out the middleman means returning things like writing to a craft rather than of an afte

I think that's the issue many folks have. You coast up the salary band at a big corporate or public sector employer and get accustomed to a $100k gig coordinating paperclip management or something. At big companies especially, it's easy to

I think it depends on degree of unemployment. Folks in this 99 week situations have been unemployed for nearly 2 years... you have to wonder at some point why they haven't gotten some sort of job -- even a lousy one. For an IT job, are you

I'm sure the engineers could hack something up, no problem. The problem is that Facebook's market defines mass-market -- the unwashed masses need to be able to figure out how to do stuff. That's hard.

I love how the Facebook PR angle is that they have consulted with "child protection" experts who advised them that a real-name policy is a good idea. "Save the children" is a really lame excuse in this context.

I'm sure Zuckerberg gets this -- it is a pretty blatantly obvious concept. But addressing this technically is hard to do, and likely to be unsuccessful. Think about your own rules that you posted about. How is Facebook going to successfully

I've chosen to out-opt of Facebook for a variety of reasons that aren't really germane. To assist with this, I use a Chrome extension called "Facebook Disconnect" to basically remove FB from my daily web experience. So for me, TechCrunch do

Accounting courses are horrific, but in fairness they try to get you up to speed on the basics before diving into the detail. A typical CSI 101 course is often like this -- you learn about operators, etc without understanding how things act

I think the scenario in this article works in some banks, law firms and other places that give a hoot about Ivy League connections and hire a few proles to avoid being painted as a company full of elitists.

Buying the medicine in the open market adds some moral clarity. You are left with whether performance enhancing drugs are ok or not, which is an ambiguous issue. I don't think that coffee should be equated with Adderal, but I am not sure wh

US military pilots in wartime are expected to operate for longer than 12 hours at a time, supported by speed pills. If it were legal for truck or bus drivers to do so, companies would compel them to as well.

You need to change to adapt to things. Do you do things exactly the same as you did in high school? Probably not -- you adapted to the changes that life threw at you. RH is a small company that has to compete against behemoths with a full p

Sounds like the dev types get 3-4 monitors and very beefy PCs, and work 40 hour weeks. Why would you want/need a laptop in that case? Multi-monitors with a laptop is asking for ergonomic-related health problems.

This is an 80/20 rule thing. The vast majority of PCs get refreshed in one way or another every 3-4 years. So a company like Microsoft can invest in the 80% of the market that drives sales (ie. people who refresh computers) OR invest resour
