A problem we face where I work is how designers sometimes limit themselves in the creative part of the work, because they don't know how to implement it later on. Another complaint is that, if they have to implement something that's hard, t

The environment EVE creates in almost every aspect of the game is just fascinating. It is the only game I ever played I actually felt an enormous thrill and adrenaline rush when playing pvp. It doesn't matter if you're pvping alone or with

But this just states what this generation lacks the most... Empathy. I couldn't care less if Facebook didn't exist because humanity focused it's work into solving real problems. But some people just don't care. As long as they are living th

It's still just a lie. A cosmetic lie, but a lie. Are fake breasts less fake than a fake girlfriend? They're all just lies used by these people to get whatever they want from it. Of course this is horrible, but it's funny how people don't t

Using things where they don't need to be used is always wrong, but that's almost always just the consequence of a bad developer writing stuff. Not a bored one. Great portion of developers aren't "bored", they are bad, so they do everything

I think the biggest confusion in vi is the insert/normal mode. Unexperienced people tend to think on a text editor when you type ":" you add that to the text, while in vim it's the start of a command :D

But isn't that a good reason to learn the smallest basics of vim? Maybe it's just me, but after I had my first bad experience with vim, I tried learning the basics so that would never happend again. Since this is a guide for linux, this is

It's not about being able to install your other favorite editor. It's about knowing how to use the one common editor between linux distros.

But I never said you have to spend huge amounts of time learning vim. You just need to learn the basics and it will help you a lot more than not covering it at all.

If you want to learn linux, you will need to learn vim. It's pretty much the only decent editor constant in all linux distos. I think it's better to get it out of the way or the linux user won't be able to edit a file properly.

The problem is, when reading that "apology" I get the feeling they just admitted they failed to fool their users with the first attempt. As many stated, the document was not unclear or misinterpreted, it was very explicit. Now they say they

I agree, $200 is way too much to pay for content from a person I've never heard of, and couldn't find any easy reference in the page. With that kind of money you can get a lot of good content in a lot of places. I just don't see the differe

Even tho it's not a tangible thing, it still exists. You can't measure it with a ruler or some lines of code formulae, but good programmers are easily recognizable by other good/experienced programmers.

Even tho IMHO coding is an art, like writing, you cannot compare those two in this case. You write code that will almost for sure, live on for 10+ years and will be changed by a lot of people. Good code will be maintainable and easy to exte

This only applies to this new wave of "ship it" these days. From what I've seen, it's pretty much just in web/mobile development. I doubt Torvalds produces (or produced) quick dirty code to "make stuff happen", and I also bet he's a hell of

They can but they shouldn't. If they develop an OPEN library that's meant to be used on more than one environment, by making the library closed to GNOME, you're betraying everyone that chose the library because of it's openness. It's basica

If you're a programmer (since I don't think non-programmers would like this, ever) you can try xmonad. Started using it and I can't stop using it now. Pure and simple efficiency.

That's an excuse. You should always provide a great default solution and let the user customize it if he wants to. Once there is ANY user customization, the entire user experience changes. If you want the UX to be ALWAYS the same, you can't

Even if we do that, it's only 0.000001% of the people doing it. It doesn't even begin to scratch the big threats. People are so easily bought by them that all our efforts seem so small. I really think we're not gonna be able to change the s
