I got my numbers from a projection that also had them at 11BN revenue by now. The actual number for 2019 is 4.1BN. So yeah, Uber makes earns very little per engineer/product member compared to healthy companies. https://inve

I wonder if the CTO really "resigned" or was kicked out. Uber's engineering culture is well known for not thinking about costs early in development. Moreover, ignoring infra costs, the revenue per engineer is really low, it

Do people questioning the intentions of this move, have actual experience using Oracle cloud? It seems that people really eat the marketing that AWS/GCP/Azure are the best cloud provider for every single product. Oracle Cloud'

Clearly Google sees your part of the world as a third rate market. You should treat their brand the same way. In the USA, the perception isn't of Google as a quality brand. More of an also-ran. PS: I love their cloud services. I just d

It's one more of those meaningless demonstrations of support that social media has generalized. Communicating that "we're all in this together" is as effective as a giving "like" to the Facebook page of a perso

I talk to the janitor that services our offices at a really high end space near the Moscone. No way dude, those poor people are contracted by a bigger firm, they lost all sources of income over a month ago.

I wasn’t able to achieve the same performance with RedShift aggregates, I tried that first before I decided to migrate from RedShift to Druid back in 2014. We deal with dozens of dimensions per event and no combination of distribution keys

Not all data warehouses are designed for OLAP. As the performance of these systems increase, it is possible to satisfy OLAP use cases with some warehouses such a BQ, but they are still not ideal as your number of concurrent queries scale an

We have negotiated a flat rate deal with Google and have access to a higher concurrent query limit than 100, and even then, it is not the right tool for my use case. BigQuery is also far more expensive. Our users expect responses in the mil

Filtering by partial string match on dimensions. It is equally slow on both of them. For straightforward filters and aggregations, yeah, Clickhouse is faster. However I read a PR by the Druid team where they added a vector engine. If they r

You are right about Clickhouse, but other data warehouses are not optimized for the same use case of Druid and Clickhouse, OLAP. For example, RedShift and BigQuery cannot be put behind a user facing backend. BigQuery has a default limit of

Druid and Clickhouse are OLAP systems. The key here is “online” as in they are optimized to answer queries in a matter of milliseconds. Maybe things have improved, but RedShift is not really an OLAP system. The last time I used RedShift was

Not in this case. At work, we use AWS and GCP, everything that runs on top of Kubernetes is deployed on both clouds. If I isolate the number of service stopping incidents this year for that vertical, I can find 3 on GCP's side, and zer

I would guess that there are more great apps published daily than ever before. The issue is probably discovery. Even if you build something great, you are competing for attention, and people who can pay for ads get the most attention.
