Absolutely, some days I could be convinced that people would fight back with me saying "water is wet". When you see those really great things here it does restore some faith in the place but they are getting further apart all the

It was the latest console generation that merely doubled the RAM from the previous generation that showed this in action. That plus silly things like Macbooks with 8GB base line for over a decade.

In a past life (2000's) I was doing some dev stuff on Ps3, trying to figure out so decent uses for Cell's mass of compute and working around RSX's limited memory bandwidth while having the luxury of Blu-ray storage to burn th

Even in the 90's I recall decompressing ZIP files on a 486 being limited by the HDD speed. It felt like even then we would head towards compressed memory systems once it could be compressed quickly enough.

I forgot were I saw it but it was an analysis of cache to die size and how it has effectively stopped scaling. Larger cache just means larger chips now. It sort of makes sense because SRAM cannot have the same transient nature of a calculat

Reminded of Kaze Emanuars work on optimising N64 software. ( https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCuvSqzfO_LV_QzHdmEj84SQ ) The RAM was so terrible that essentially you try to keep the processors running in cache for as long

That is how I generally see it. The technological suite needed to get to that stage is astounding. It is a great indicator of progress and decline, like how the quality of crockery dropped in the roman empire showed how their economics hamp

I know a couple that lived off grid and made it work for a long while. They only had to give it up in their early 80's after several decades on location. Not a bad way to be. The thing that did them in was failing health and they neede

Pretty much. There will be a bottom limit on the price of the panels, simply due to the logistics of moving materials, I mean there is a price of salt per ton that is almost entirely this. But everything else around solar such as inverters,

There a few people I know who live off grid, they all say the same thing. The longer you are out there the closer to 100% you will be challenged for your stuff. Be it a semi-local crazy, warlord, gypsies or cult few have heard of - they all

I recommend the youtube channel Posy. He only uploads about once a month but every time it is an exploration of something that seems so simple but it sparks that child like wonder in the world. The good sense of humour helps as well. https

I do hope that moves like this accelerate RISC V development in a significant way. While there are a lot of RISC V cores in the wild, the top end of performance is not great. Way behind in terms of performance per watt. But the upwards tren
