We need a nuanced approach. Blanket bans, while sounding good, can slow down pace of innovation in an area that desperately needs more of it - esp as the world is aging. This needs to be a combination of informed consent, clear access audit

I haven’t looked into this but why doesn’t pricing vary by region? I’d imagine that the denser areas aren’t at risk of fire as much as the outlying areas next to forests.

So tired of clickbait. A vulnerability found in Google’s implementation of SPF in Gmail. The company is prioritizing a fix.

I’m not sure your analogy holds. YouTube plays full music content on their site and shows ads on top of it. Whereas Facebook, Reddit, or Twitter link to the sites. You can’t consume that content in the same way that you can music videos on

You forgot music videos and magazines!! I remember a time when music videos and magazines were the leading causes of teen mental health decline. Also, what is social media? My nieces and nephews spend more time on messaging than they do on

If I were running a social network, I would prioritize using AI to describe photos and using that as part of the targeting data over the 1-1.5 seconds of audio in Live Photos.

So, my anecdotal parental evidence suggests otherwise. My oldest was upset that her friend didn’t acknowledge a message she had sent and apparently changed the topic. Apparently this friend always does that. My daughter was complaining that

What is social media? My daughters use messaging more than they use TikTok, IG, or BeReal. They send 100s of messages to each other in a span of 5 mins. However, even within their close circle of friends, I see the same social issues (peer

Great. Let’s copy and paste China’s rules on western social media apps and apply them to Chinese owned social media apps in the US. I wonder how many people in the US will use TikTok if the rules require government censorship and data shari

Yeah, and that she joined just as the internal demand was probably going down. She was hired in anticipation of a need that didn’t materialize. Kudos to her for “fighting” for work. Most people would be tempted to slack off.

Does she work more than 40 hours / week? If so, she very likely gets paid 1.5x for any hours worked above 40. Do you think Apple and Foxconn are paying Indian women time and a half for hours above 40? That said, I'm nearly 100% ce

Not specifically this but for its part Google typically bundles these under “Traffic acquisition cost”. This is the amount of money Google pays to third parties to get traffic into its services.

To add to this, can we put a rest to asking founders who sold out and are no longer connected with the acquiring company about their opinions? It isn't like Google's advertising model was a secret or difficult to envision where it

I think the premise that no social media = no depressed kids is pretty weak, imo. Also, what's social media? Are messaging apps not social media? This feels like another one of those 'violent video games are bad' arguments.
