Funny you should mention that; Minneapolis happens to be the largest city in North America that is located directly on the 45th parallel.

Keep in mind that weather impacts include impact to water resources, and those resources are already becoming highly threatened in much of the west and southwest. That's only going to get worse, and will do so more rapidly than the ove

An even better question: what place will continue to have the weather you want after climate change ruins the weather in wide swaths of the US in the next 5-10 years? I would not bet on Austin and Tucson, personally. Therefore, we moved fro

Um, clearly it's not undeniable, because I deny it. What precisely scares you so much about vaccination status being somewhat public? There's precisely zero threat to any real liberties there. And it's laughable to call this

I'm interested: can you name even one more of the supposed "many, many signs"? The only one you elucidated doesn't really click; nor can I discern that HN is, by any stretch, a "poor clone" of anything about Re

Sounds like someone (with a random handle and a 20-minute-old account) who spent ten minutes in the Tenderloin and thinks they're an authority on the entire Bay Area and California in general. I'm pretty sure there are awful terri

Not in English, they won't. In French, Italian, or German, though, they already do. Those languages are quite orthographically regular.

If you need to communicate to someone how a given foreign word is pronounced, IPA is invaluable. Audio doesn't do the same job, really, since it relies on a trained ear and the ability to distinguish what each individual sound is. Expe

It's also used for training singers. For instance, in grad school, I taught Singers' Diction in various languages. Being able to transcribe any given text into IPA, and then of course pronounce it accurately, is a core skill for c

Would be helpful if you could support this with some links and evidence. I monitor this issue a lot, and haven't seen anything that presents added privacy risks, at least not yet.

How are you even remotely surprised by that? If you are expecting any privacy or security from a combo of Facebook and Android, you've been asleep for the last 13 years.

You mean the business practices wherein Apple is 10x better on privacy than everyone else to the point that Facebook and Google are now being forced to be honest with users, disclose all the user data they are stealing and selling, and disc

I'm just going to say one simple thing: very few people are qualified to assess what Apple actually "seems to care" about. And this poster definitely isn't one of those people. As for the invented-from-whole-cloth link t

Please don't pretend to be surprised about that when the last decade has been all about the iPhone and its pervasive and elegant access to literally millions of sources of content that is "outside Apple's walled garden".

Well, just to answer the question very directly, iOS as a whole isn't rated 17+ because it can't be. Obviously. It's not an app, it's not present in the App Store, and it has no age rating. So that takes care of that.

You're still misstating the issue; the "justice" in question isn't being executed by "vigilantes". It's a reaction of large institutions to someone's conduct.

Except this isn't a justice system, and doesn't have consequences remotely similar to a justice system. I've taken a -30 karma hit for this particular opinion already, despite very polite language. May as well go for -35.

Except there was no "mob justice" here; you are overreacting and using terms that should be reserved for violent consequences in situations that do not justify such words. I understand why you have to exaggerate, though.
