To steal a bit from Jack Black and make it my own: Those who can't do, teach. Those who can't teach, teach gym. Those who can't teach gym go into politics.

I am not especially happy about the findings of this study, in part, because even if these findings do generalize to the real world, narcissists do so much damage that they still may not be worth the trouble. What? Simply being a narcissi

There is no doubt that "people" find this relevant and interesting. Do "good hackers", in their capacity as good hackers, find it relevant and interesting? I would definitely expect to see it high on the front page of Reddit, but this is no

This is one of the first times I've ever flagged an article. This is definitely NOT hacker news: Off-Topic: Most stories about politics, or crime, or sports, unless they're evidence of some interesting new phenomenon. http://ycombinator.

It may have been uncomfortable and inconvenient for you, but that doesn't mean it wasn't effective. For a few (perhaps inaccurate) reasons, you were flagged as a greater-than-average risk. You were searched thoroughly and found to be safe,

Exactly. This is a perfect argument for the Israeli style of behavioral profiling as opposed to the American style of trying to imagine every possible way to hijack a plane.

Good post, but there are a few slight inaccuracies: > you only qualify for return of the rake that you "contributed" by winning a pot. So for example, you win a pot of 1000$ and the casino takes 100$ in rake from that. After rakeback yo

I envision a bot as a neural-network-based engine that adjusts its play based on fitting different opponents into different patterns. Honestly, the easiest way to develop a potentially-good bot would be to give it every piece of input and t

Cygwin can see every Windows file trivially via /cygdrive. Programs compiled in cygwin are mostly native code that at the bottom rely on Windows DLLs. This is a pretty significant difference from an emulator or a virtual machine (someone me

The majority of recreational players are really bad. All you have to do is make a bot that is a little bit better and not trivially exploitable. It doesn't matter how good you are, you still lose some. All you have to do to win money in the

You don't have to be a math prodigy to play six tournaments at once. I used to play six 6-handed cash games at once, and one day I played 16 full ring cash games at a time for like twelve hours straight. The craziest players can sustain abo

That's a pretty dishonest analogy. Your first startup will succeed or fail based on its merits. If you write a book for beginners that is inaccurate, those inaccuracies will be spread in spite of their lack of merit.
