I think I found the problem: the current versions of Opera don't support hardware acceleration. There is a lab build that uses OpenGL to speed things up, but it only made this page slower. It passes the microsoft fish test with flying color

I think a more accurate description would be "a type of tool created with the intent to harm". You can use your kitchen knife to stab someone, but it's not its main purpose. Rifles and bombs don't kill people by themselves either, but are

Yes, I have, but thank you for the information. And yes, software can fit into the dictionary description of "weapon", but the scales are completely different. Throwing it into the same regulatory basket as firearms just seems misleading an

Every time I see the term "digital weaponry" or a synonym, I think of a bleak future where citizens are jailed for possession of "military grade encryption systems". I don't know if it's because I'm inside the industry, if software is inher

Offtopic: When I scroll this article in Opera it takes around 2 seconds from start to stop, and it's very jerky, even with smooth-scrolling off. It works perfectly fine in Firefox. I've noticed it before, especially with long, well-designed

I'm sorry, but I'm unconvinced. It's just too easy to use "human evolution" to explain all sort of behaviors. I think the problem is that you don't have to validate anything, you just tell a convincing story. The nearest the author got to v

See "Check for updates" and "About". Especially "Check for updates", which is the worst thing you can do to a user who is looking for help.

Is the idea just to make brute forcing slower, or am I missing something? Because bcrypt and the others already do that and they don't make the user read a captcha.

It seems the hacker got access of a copy of the database by compromising the machine of an audit. If this is really the case, he couldn't possibly edit the main database with only that.

High failure rate, high price, low capability, but great speeds. So the ideal setup is SSD for your OS and programs and a spinning disk for your documents?

Could a hacker move the file somewhere else and ask for ransom? If so, that's a lot easier to deal with than losing everything outright, but not risk proof.

Just Works (tm), until you have to search something in it, or make a copy to your friend, or backup, or write down things from an electronic medium. That being said, there's nothing better than paper & pencil for note taking.

In CloudFlare's Features page ( https://www.cloudflare.com/cloudflare-services.html ), "Denial of service attack protection" is marked as not available now or even soon. Not sure how this stands against a DDoS.

This is called "code golf". You try to get the final program with the minimum of "shots" (bytes, lines, tokens or characters). It's amusingly addictive. And I really hope you misplaced that hyphen in "cow-orkers".

I'm still a few years away from using "web apps" as first class programs. Google's home page takes 3 seconds to load here (Opera, 3 Mb/s, Brazil) and it's the fastest website I use. To me, they are simply unusable as a first class program.

Seems like a logical step to me, especially for dodgy automated tools. Making your programs paste the illegal info in pastebin makes a lot of sense from a plausible deniability standpoint. "No sir, I didn't plant the bug there, I just found
