I started out in SPA development a little over 3 years ago. Before that I was very inexperienced with front-end development, and we used ASP.NET MVC with JQuery sprinkled around. I realized that this was going to be a spaghetti nightmare,

That reminds me of a place I used to work at, where initially we had DBAs embedded in the teams. They switched that and the DBAs were all grouped together and all hell broke loose. They were always have meetings, throwing out emails about

The stories that generate flame wars don't go away as long as they align with Dang's and other moderators political views.

It's not a free market, so let's make it less of a free market by getting the government involved. That's the plan, right?

A "government" is a big abstract entity that is made up of people and procedures. People come and go, and procedures/regulation are changed all the time without direct legislative efforts. You don't have the knowledge t

Yes, control is always a nice side-effect for the statists when they busy-body around looking for a crisis to fix and solve by limiting something or another that those evil humans (not enlightened like himself) are doing.

Does it? You need to know typescript (which you arguably should be using regardless of frontend framework) That's highly debatable. We moved back to ES after using Typescript for years and couldn't be happier. We're much

Since the 90s it's driven me crazy that people don't recognize the flexibility of having data and functions separate when needed.

The Facebook ecosystem is a no-go for a lot of people. Reason seems interesting and I'm glad they shed some of the OCaml syntactic baggage to make it more programmer ergonomic, but it's very unlikely that it'll ever take off.

FP is a style of programming and not a language. You can write imperative code in Haskell.

I wrote React for a couple years and was pretty dogmatic against the whole "stringy code" thing. Obviously and generally, we'd rather write code not in strings. But guess what? Moving to Vue from React was a major producti

Nostalgia and then reality results in disappointment. I played EQ 1 for a few years starting in 1999. It was a blast. People were always ad-hoc grouping together, talking to each other after a camp fight. I remember just starting and my h

WebAssembly can't close the open web anymore than it's already closed today. The vast majority of JS in the browser today is minified jibberish. WebAssembly doesn't take away HTML and CSS.

Unless you are against state intervention in cases like these, then you are already accepting that the state can interfere. At that point the question is a matter of degree I just can't be charitable with the whole "well the sta

I've been down the Emacs road a couple times. It's just not going to happen. It comes down to to time. I have a limited amount of it and investing in Emacs isn't worth it. Obviously Emacs will have users for years to come

I used Typescript for years and found that the costs didn't outweigh the benefits for us. It slowed us down tremendously.

Yeah, we use C# for the backend too and recently moved away from Typescript. It's a breath of fresh air getting away from all of the type complexity of Typescript. Like you said, it just bogged us down and made us less productive. Wi

Given a choice of dystopias, I would also prefer to avoid the one where "the market" decides what I should or shouldn't watch. You really want the state deciding what you watch?
