Out of curiosity, could this have been a vector for a supply chain attack? I am currently running an fairly outdated version of datatables on a personal project, v1.11.3 from 2021. I'm not too worried about running this older version,

Offsite replica is only applicable if the cause is a failure of the primary. What if I’m restoring a backup because someone accidentally dropped the wrong table?

I’ve used this app for a while, it’s really good and I’d highly recommend it if you want to learn more about the birds where you live in an accessible way.

Django is still great. I recently upgraded two ~10 year old aging legacy applications at work. One was in Flask, and one in Django. This made me appreciate the "batteries included" philosophy of Django a lot more. Even though the

Dumb decision from Microsoft. Will they remove country borders from Bing Maps because they might be considered political too?

I have some first-impressions feedback after playing with it for ~15 mins: 1. Setup was super easy. Aside from Goland/Pycharm marketplace search weirdness, I was up and running in ~30 seconds. 2. The branch dropdown is a little crazy i

I searched Actionate in the Goland and Pycharm plugins Marketplace and can’t find it. Edit: Nevermind, this this looks to be a deficiency of the Jetbrains search. It seems it would rank similar results like “GitHub Actions Manager” with a l

I agree in principle, although I’m not sure in our scenario that Bazel was even a value add when it was maintained. It just meant our Golang developers had to use a bunch of obtuse tooling like Gazelle instead of the normal Go tooling they’

The builds were much faster afterwards, but Go builds always are fast. Maybe in other languages that are slower to build the Bazel cache is more beneficial.

We had the same setup, ex-Googler SRE demanded builds be done with Bazel for our Go monorepo. He convinced someone to switch it all over, all builds, deploys, CI, testing, etc were all dependent on Bazel. That person left, and the Bazel stu

K8S done right is literally designed for multi tenancy. A separate cluster per customer would be insanely costly and terrible for the planet. Maybe in premium products where security is paramount, but a separate cluster per customer is basi

Please no! Do not use Bazel unless you have a platform team with multiple people who know how to use it - e.g. large Google-like teams. We had “the Bazel guy” in our mid-sized company that Bazelified so many build processes, then left. It h

GitHub really need to invest in their CI. It is a second-class feature in the platform, but should be the beating heart of every SaaS team. GitLab CI is leaps and bounds ahead.

The ability to replicate from a database service is an extremely important consideration when picking any DBaaS. If you cannot do a no-downtime migration out of a database provider, you are needlessly locking yourself into a vendor.

There’s no such thing as zero cost to development teams. Who patches the security vulnerabilities? Who answers esoteric customer questions for customers with premium support contracts?

I would not be surprised if the files were not stored in a particularly secure manner. The publisher probably never anticipated PII being in the PDFs for print. They probably have an indefinite data retention period.

Someone at my work created a secret bot that scrapes the outlook contacts list and diffs it from the previous day, each day. This way we get daily updates whenever a new person is onboarded or offboarded. As employees we now have more clari

Currently working at a $100M valuation tech company that fundamentally is built on a Django monolith with some other fluffy stuff lying around it. You can go far with a Django monolith and some load balancing.

A super cheap wholesale price on a windy day like this. Past year average: £97.90/MWh Right now: £5.99/MWh. Better transmission and storage tech or better ways to scale demand at different times will be a game changer here.
