eBPD seemed to be the only thing anyone was talking about at KubeCon and Cloud Native Con last week. I hope people don’t get carried away and do too much kernel tomfoolery with their production kubernetes nodes. Not that it’s my problem, bu

> Much of Mozilla's revenue comes from Google, of course. This couldn't be because Rust was, and is, outshining Google's GoLang? Surely not? I don’t understand this assertion, and definitely not the comparison between Rust

Sure, but then again the link you sent says: `Pin actions to a tag only if you trust the creator` If I don't trust GitHub, why am I storing my source code on it and running CI via GitHub actions? There are also some security gains from

Did you ever try scraping the bottom of the USB-C port with a bobby pin? I find over time pocket lint gets squished at the back of the port and stops the cable fitting in as snug. For some reason it seems to be more of a problem with USB-C

There was an outage yesterday too when the GitHub action “checkout@v3” broke when they released “checkout@v4” Yes, they broke the ability for GitHub CI to checkout repos… https://github.com/actions/checkout/issues&

In principle it is possible to burn waste cleanly (in regard to human health, not CO2) when done properly. For example, Sweden burns most of its household waste. When done properly, incineration of waste to generate electricity is probably

I assume it would also have the advantage of not tying the code reviews and PRs to a proprietary git provider. Say I move from GitHub to GitLab, I assume I lose all the PR descriptions and comments people have made over the years and only k

Google have been quite irresponsible on some of their own devices too. For example the Chromecast With Google TV is actively being sold (and new product revisions released), yet it is still running Android TV 12 despite 13 coming out in Dec

Surely if it goes well people will see their existing python codebases become more performant with no development required aside from updating some dependencies? Not nobody will notice it. It seems like it could be a great outcome for devel

I literally haven’t heard of those two alternatives. Let’s be honest with ourselves. the feature set granted by Microsoft enterprise products, the single pane of glass for managing users and access controls, and the low ops overhead compare

I know Google does a fair bit of stuff to package Postgres into their CloudSQL offering as a service. It could have possibly been their mistake.

Go devs have said there will _never_ be a Go 2 “major” release. They saw the mistakes made by python from 2 to 3 and decided to not do that. It will be backwards compatible 1.x releases forever. https://thenewstack.io/how-go

Even if you get this data, it is not uncommon for SSD manufacturers to change the original NAND chips for inferior chips without changing the SSD’s brand name or model number. Linus tech tips covered this issue before: https://yo

What kind of scale of logs are we talking here? The company I work for run a self-hosted Grafana LGTM stack ingesting about 1TB of logs per day, it’s pretty snappy and works well enough, and only costs a few thousand dollars per month in GK

You might enjoy Go. Lots of emphasis has been put into the development tooling and ecosystem. There is an impressive commitment to avoiding breaking changes. We have a legacy Go microservices codebase that’s over a decade old and because th

I see the anti-K8S sentiment so much on hackernews. Sure, there’s a time and a place for K8S, but I see a lot of point-blank objection to it for often weak reasons.

Google still famously uses a monorepo. With lots of heavy set-built tooling, their own variant of Bazel for builds, it works well. I imagine a lot of engineering effort goes into making it work.

I suppose PubSub is at least slightly better than this because it's not a perfect queue. I.E. messages that are not acknowledged will be retried with exponential backoff. That at least gives some time to process some stuff before you e
