I have an 8GB Macbook Air M1. I purchased the base model because there were long waits for 16GB versions. Honestly, for simple use it is fine. I use Affinity Photo and it is nearly as fast as my Ryzen 3700/32GB box, and is faster in so

I have yet to run in to any bugs. The speed difference between anything else and Safari is shocking. My Ryzen 3700 with 32GB of ram cannot come close to matching the performance of Safari even on an Ipad 4.

It is bad in a lot of places. A starter home less than 10 years ago was $75k. Now it is $300k without an increase in wages for people starting out or working less technical jobs. The housing pinch has already hit Twin Falls if you can belie

I've been using it for a year. Each version gets a little better than the last and it gets regular updates. It also has the rather large benefit of not being tied to Creative Cloud, which is one of the worst bits of software ever made.

I'll add the disappearance of sidewalks, too. I can't walk a simple mile here to go to the store because there isn't a safe way of doing so. There is part of a sidewalk, but it doesn't extend all the way down a 35 MPH ro

Modern supermarket bread in the USA is some pretty awful crap. Loaded with cheap leavening agents, made from cheap low nutritional value wheat, and loaded with sugar. Sure, it is bread, but it might as well be called bread substitute. It is

Talent costs money. Money most can't afford to pay. Back when papers actually had money, those at the top weren't paid well to begin with. The major paper in the state I used to live in went completely out of business and had thei

Intel has really lost it. My Ryzen 8 core CPU is easy to cool with a quiet set of fans. Cooling this for real work will require a custom watercooling set up...and it isn't even as fast as a Ryzen 8 core CPU.

My M1 MBA is faster than my 4790K desktop, and by a decent margin. It is fast enough that I'd be able to have it as a main computer if I needed it to be. My main PC is an 8 core Ryzen.

I use Windows and MacOS, and I wince every time either of them has an update. For one, MS doesn't test updates anymore. You may get something pleasant like losing the ability to print, or having all your network cards vanish. I had a s

I did this to mine. It no longer throttles under any type of regular use. I did an hour long encode using Final Cut Pro and the hottest it got was 83C. The hottest the battery got was 44C, so it is doing a fine job of dumping the heat outsi

Toyota had the first mass produced hybrid vehicle in 1997 with the Prius. Today, they have hybrid vehicles for all of their passenger cars, and class leading MPG in most of them. They are #1 in terms of sales volume for hybrid vehicles. The

Everyone I know wants an M1 laptop, has bought one, or is waiting for a larger laptop with it in it. None of these people are nerdy types, but the buzz surrounding the M1 is loud.

i3's aren't in the same galaxy in terms of performance as the M1. My guess is they are taking a relatively simple product to learn how to properly port their more complex products to TSMC's processes.

Intel has been bleeding engineers to other firms for a while now, and new talent has been skipping them altogether. These are not good developments for a company that depends on brain power to make their products.

One of Intel's biggest scams is having top end mobile CPU's that actually perform worse than cheaper parts because they hit maximum TDP quickly and then throttle themselves into a giant state of anemia.

It may drop the temp a few C or delay throttling, but small heatsinks and tiny fans can only dump so much heat out of the chassis. I did all kinds of things to my XPS, but the largest gain came from undervolting and it still sounded like a

Apple's M1 has shown us how antiquated and far behind Intel has become. My Macbook is not only much faster than my XPS unit, but it doesn't get hot, nor does it use up the battery in 4 hours.

The last thing police need are more tools that don't work and they don't understand how to use. That they still use polygraphs should make everyone's hair stand on end.
