an ELD will not stop the truck from driving even if the driver is OOS, it will however make it easy to penalize the driver.

It's rare to hit your driving hours while driving, but you'll often run out of on duty hours first. Often those issues, detainment at shippers, whatever - is beyond your employers control.

I'm sorry fun doesn't sound dignified enough for you, but I meant fun, yes, - dignity was a part of that package. That said, no one is going to do a job no matter how dignified it is without either great pay or privilege if it

Do you build rules just for the bad actors or to do you try to build a pleasant and equitable society? The bad actors in most cases won't follow them anyhow, no matter how draconian they are.

The problem with ELD's is the lack of flexibility. So I'm a former driver and I have a good example of this, with paper logs, I could fudge, I might log that I shut down at X time in Y place, when I actually shut down 20-30 miles

As mentioned by a parallel commenter, your link doesnt say what you think it does. That said, the most power line synchronization is useful for is clocking not time , and to be very honest, its only a consistent clocking source in some p

I dont think there is much of a message in there, its just a iBeacon packet type. Just using the default iBeacon structure - you could have a hash tucked into the major/minor bytes (4 bytes tot) which would correspond to a value blaste

Without starting the argument, I'd like to know your thoughts - for me as someone who operates several layers of abstraction away from the hardware, the choice seems mostly arbitrary (like Fahrenheit vs Celsius) with each option havi

My Xeon mac pro is still in service, I should break out the G5, I reckon - but I've not. I did get rid of all of my Old World hardware at least.

The problem with AI is its name. Artificial Inteligence implies that its intelligent and currently, its not - its just a computer program, with all the foibles and difficulties of any other computer program. I run into this problem in m

I had no idea who Mr. Devault was before this article. So I googled, did some reading, read his blog some, and yes, he strikes me as one of those people who have entirely too many strongly held opinions, about a great many things that are p

How much longer would the war have lasted without the strategic bombing? Would those civilians have died anyhow had the germans had the military materiel to hold each city longer, which would have required fighting block by block - Imagin

As I point out in a parallel comment - By 1943 the Germans had mostly successfully moved their production to small workshops, which were often in cities. Essentially providing a justification why any civilian population center was also a va

I generally disagree with this article, mostly tone - but also conclusions too. What other options were there for the Allies? By 1943 the Germans had mostly successfully moved their production to small workshops, which were often in cities.

I often feel we missed a chance to make booting from removable media real easy. If we had built ISO support into EFI, you could just copy an ISO (like a container) to a MBR or GPT partitioned thumb drive and boot it - no magic tools require

I feel different about extra cores on a CPU than I do about heated seats. The manufacturing price delta between an 8 core CPU and a 16 core, nowadays is functionally meaningless. The manufacturing cost between a car with heated seats and wi

Electric window defrosters are really low wattage - because its just trying to raise the temperature of the surface of the glass by a few degrees. Generally IIRC no more than 25-30a - which is a fair bit on a car with a 100a alternator - bu

Which ICE cars use resistive heating? I've never seen an alternator large enough on an ICE car to do it. (I'm also skeptical of how well that'd work on a 12v electrical system)

Thats where I'd go first - but I think it's also worthwhile to break the shopping side of the business up to, into amazon eCommerce platform, amazon the seller of goods, Amazon logistics, and amazon fulfillment services as well -

DCL to my eyes at least clearly inherited some ideas from TOPS-20. cmd for all of its braindead nature is surprisingly usable for complex tasks though. I have to use it often, tbh.

Thats any era, honestly. While I think we might have too much choice now, I think moving back to a 1600 level of choice (and inequality spread) would make me miserable personally. Also, I like not dying at 35 (am over 35 now).

The only thing I look at with amazon is how you'd break it up? I think its obvious that Amazon is a company with an market position allowing it to exercise unreasonable control over its markets.

The going theory here is that they dont have to make money shipping people shit and still own most of the marketplace because of the giant sloshy bucket of money from AWS.

I'm an avid Amazon shopper, but.. you know who is surprisingly good for things that are not books? Target. Great experience, fast shipment sells stuff online for the same price it does retail. A second runner up is Home Depot. Amazon
