Imagine food costing 10x more in constant units of money, having articles of clothing take a months wage, etc.

Thats not really fair to DCL - cmd is much more.. lacking in facilities than DCL is. Nor is it fair to DCL as an interactive environment either.

The big three carriers are offering (actually) unlimited data on their flagship plan, and unlimited data (with soft caps) on the others, I know because I checked the websites for each of them while I was making my comment.

There are some good reasons for data caps on mobile carriers. The last mile is a shared access medium, and the carriers only have so much spectrum licensed to them. All mobile carriers are offering plans with soft caps, meaning you may be

It'd be a gargantuan project to do so, just trying to match property data alone would be massive.

I see it as an almost total impracticality to transition from our current system to a centralized national identity document. There is no central database of: * Citizenship * Births * Drivers Licenses * Marriages * Deaths (SSA death reporti

The other part of this is "meaningless resume heuristics" - If you have the skillset for it, and are looking - look for software jobs outside of the traditional tech sector, in telecommunications for example. I had a friend who ma

Remote meetings are just one problem, I cant imagine trying to run SMB (or even the somewhat lighter NFS) calls over an 144 kbit ISDL or ISDN connection, even on an ADSL connection with a 384 or 768 upstream would be painful. Maybe remote o

Everyone is hiring, but HR uses very exactly keyword reviews, related, HR wants a top performer (based on some meaningless resume heuristics), but wont pay for it.

I think you can ignore the transportation part, if for no other reason than impracticality - not all districts offer effective or workable transportation now. I'd suggest that additional funding for special education, on a per student

I think the lockdowns are a mixed bag, yes many people didnt die from COVID because of them - but many (smaller number) people did die of things not COVID from them. I still think on a numbers perspective that the lockdowns saved more lives

Frontier did actually surprisingly invest lots of money into their copper plant, but the copper plant had been all but ignored from the the point Bell Atlantic bought GTE.

There are also just so few customers left too. For me as a phone nerd who would prefer to have a landline, but no longer have a good justification for it, and frankly I'm unsure if I even have a good drop anymore to my house (its not h

Most of the old phone people I'm aware of lived long, healthy, productive lives, often living many decades beyond retirement. Those who did not, in my own personal experience, dont really have a single cause of death.

As someone who is well versed in that, its at the end of its practical life. Both PIC and Lead Cable pinhole overtime, the life of areal (either PIC or Leaded) cable is 30-50 years, the life of buried cable is 50-90 - all of this cable ex

The cables are near end of life and unlikely to be replaced at all, because the entirety of the copper network and its associated hardware is also near end of life.

As someone who has spent a majority of his career in Telecom, I think the risk is wildly overstated. First - only 20-60% of the cable in the wild is lead (depending on the locality, and age of construction), from the mid to late 60's o
