There is nothing really comparable for OpenGL and it shows, really. Awesome work.

Of course reasons matter. Apple actually got some extra time when there was a fundamental flaw in XNU's task structure handling since fixing it properly required some heavy refactoring in the kernel.

While the current model has better keyboard than 2015 it's still unreliable design prone to gather dust between keys and the new protector. In contrast with the previous gen it was harder to actually make keys jam and even then you cou

Depends, if the idea is to build something reliable that will be maintained for longer periods instead of just for learning the newest whatever.js I'd choose something boring. For example Python/Flask + Postgres for the backend an

Interesting! Are those low frame rates visible in graph constrained by energy savings/minimizing work or caused by performance issues?

OTOH the standard itself mentions implementing the function using shell in a subprocess [1]. POSIX is full of nastiness such as this, hopefully not too many maintained & used software actually needs wordexp. [1] https://pubs.

...and you need tools and editors to make the content for the engine in proper format. That is the "boring part" OSS projects usually lack since writing renderers and job systems is much more fun than fighting with inconsistencies

Looks nifty and simple. Last time I had to work with low mem environment (64k heap for Lua running on MIPS) I ended up implementing something close to TLSF [1] allowing to choose some trade-offs regarding perf/allocation efficiency. In

Yeah, make can be useful tool but it solves different set of problems than Autotools or CMake. Definitely not a fan of either of them but currently CMake seems to be the least bad choice for cross-platform development. Like the C++ language

Yeah TFA reminds a bit of passionate blog posts and articles about switching from Windows to Linux something like a decade or two ago. Something that would fit better in BSD community such as Lobste.rs than HN ;-)

C solves different problems, there are cases where scripting languages can be extremely helpful yet running under heavy RAM constraints. Lua and JS can be adapted to quite low-mem situations (we were using on 128 k) and there are no compar

Yeah I agree, it's not the ideal situation but it is the real world. Simple makefiles do not work often and there are systems that can solve the problem. Not elegant, brilliantly designed tools but ones that work anyway.

Yeah, CMake and autotools solve different problems than make. I'm definitely not a fan of either one but if I need to really distribute and compile something on more than one OS there isn't much of a choice. The posted makefile e

Most game engines do have acceleration structure that can be used for raycasts such as one provided by physics system though. Of course it is not 1:1 compared to rendering but coarse bboxes are in many cases more useful than really accurate

Just microbenchmarking thread creation is different case, the issue is usually letting OS scheduler to decide what to run and when while coroutines give you explicit access. Coroutines are quite a different thing than OS-level schedulable e
