Maus, and works like it, are powerful because they show the history of the holocaust through the eyes of those who survived it. This recollection will include the way the corpses were piled naked, or the verbal abuse they suffered. The inte

I feel you’re dramatically underselling it - the book has also (reportedly; edit may have not been) been banned from the school libraries. But furthermore, the reasons given strike me as extremely silly - I can’t remember any even mildly ti

It’s very bizarre to me how you can get very inexpensive single burner countertop induction plates ($50-100), but multi-burner built-in cooktops are dramatically more expensive ($1000-4000). Anybody know why this is?

At one point I worked on a project where for source control the previous people would just copy/paste all the code in the file into a block comment at the bottom of the file. Some files were three hundred lines of code followed by seve

Could you consider showing comment scores once comments are a certain number of days old? Being able to see highly ranked comments across all posts is interesting.

This isn't some everyday funeral home director - this fellow had previously been in the alt-news ( https://fullfact.org/health/funeral-director-interview/ ), with baseless claims like facemasks causing pneumoni

Notability is sort of a bad metric since it’s incredibly subjective. And we’re not just worried about extraneous inclusions in 2021, we’re also concerned about missing data points for previous years - there’s no real statistical correction

A potential bias for 2021 would be that: In 2021 some people are worried about a vaccine->heart link and for any given event may be more likely to document it online and/or add it to Wikipedia. As such we might not be measuring numb

That’s not a complete list for any year, so comparisons of counts is meaningless - again, lots of room for biases to creep in here.

That doesn’t pass smell test to me. A 5x increase in workload for funeral homes would mean ballpark 5x as many deaths. That would be apocalyptic and impossible to miss. Every ER doc and ambulance driver in the US would be talking about it.

Sudden cardiac death has always been surprisingly frequent in healthy athletes, so there’s a lot of room for observational bias here. (2016) https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4969030/ > A rece

The Dropbox launch post is a great example of why you shouldn’t take (particularly dismissive) comments here too seriously. (This isn’t to dunk on any of the contributors there - but just a reminder that we’re all fallible and have biases)

The thing I don’t get about NFTs in general is that they don’t actually seem trustless to me. You need some sort of trusted source that says “this NFT is genuine and not just a bootleg”… and at that point you might as well just have that tr
