I've been dealing with missing drivers since Windows 3.11. In the case you're describing, I'd connect a USB mouse, or just 'tab' my way through setup.

I am a bit confused. Last week I bought a 12th gen Intel ThinkPad that came with Win11. Everything works just fine, including the touchpad. For the touchpad specifically, there is also some 'enhancer' utility that comes preinstall

Based on this one comment, I think you should learn to disambiguate between facts and your subjective opinion. We all have our preferences, obviously, but to assert that MacOS UI is 'a masterclass in bad design and lackluster features&

Crypto lets governments track every citizen's purchase ever made, forever. KYC ensures that a wallet is tied to a person. I am surprised governments haven't yet jumped on this fully (without proof of work, just a government run di

Story time. About 20 years ago, when dialup was introduced where I grew up, my uncle called me to show him what this new internet thing is. As soon as I opened "yahoo.com", he asked "how am I paying to view Yahoo?". I sa

Well, I don't disagree that a rock solid codebase is important in either environment. It's the cost of change that is usually at stake, like you mentioned, and that's why I'm arguing that flexibility is more important.th

Thanks for sharing your thoughts here. I think it's useful for us to get a glimpse into your thought process and start a discussion. Though I empathize with the overall desire, you sound inexperienced to me, as in, you might have had s

Anecdata: I bid 90% of asking price on a house a month ago. Owner got offended (as I was told by my agent) and didn't counter. He then lowered the asking price to 93% of the original. Still didn't counter even though his new askin

While this thinking isn't wrong, it is optimizing for the wrong thing. By focusing on future development velocity you are trading off current velocity, which is extremely important to build an MVP, test (and eliminate) potential produ

I bought a sump pump, and called their number to ask some question. 30 seconds and one menu option later I was speaking with someone who clearly had a lot of technical knowledge of the sump pump. I was very pleasantly surprised since I am u

It is not established that cryptocurrencies in general are scams. I could make my own cryptocurrency and use it for completely legitimate reasons.

My hack for OMAD IF: skip breakfast and workout at lunch. Exercise killed the feeling of being hungry and I could easily make it to dinner with just 1 small plain yogurt snack (50 cal) at lunch.

What's to stop the group from releasing them anyway? What happens to the files on the hacker's drive - surely the hackers won't delete the files? That would give up the leverage they have. If the files are out there, they cou

Performance is usually the upside. The downside is subtle bugs that can happen due to side effects of the statements being reordered between sequence points.

Are you going to mix all those languages into one project and somehow use their advantages but steer away from their disadvantages? Sure, other languages have caught up or have improved on some of the features where C shines. Let's rem

Control over the code that actually runs. We already lose quite a bit of control with C (e.g. it reorders your code as it pleases) to gain portability across CPUs, otherwise we'd have to rewrite the code in several assembly languages.

C is the best choice if you want all of: small (both language and binaries), fast (both compiler and binaries), obvious (no/minimal complex magic), close to the metal, with excellent debugging support, portability and integrations. N

Saying "it's easy to shoot yourself in the foot with C" is not constructive criticism because what's easy for you could be difficult for me. If the Rust fanboy brigade could articulate actual criticism for C, such as the

In my experience (and to generalize a bit), people who shoot themselves in the foot with C are the same people who will shoot themselves in the foot with any other language. Those who aren't careful enough to free up allocated memory a

Turbo Pascal is small, fast and has a clean syntax. Rust fits in none of those shoes (yet, I suppose).

I'd like a citation for the claim that JavaScript animations are often faster than CSS animations. If it is true, it would be a very interesting read.

Why don't they borrow $250k from somewhere else and pay you? Spoiler: because it's easier and cheaper for them to sucker you into doing work for IOUs. Ask for the cash or a piece of the company. Once you hand over the code, you do
