Ursula von der Layen's nickname is "Zensursula" (Zensur == censorship) for a reason.

Democracy and rule of law usually start to have an advantage over authoritarianism when you surpass an annual GDP per capita of about 5000 USD. So, on the long term, I am optimistic that India will catch up. Especially now that the USA is m

You are wrong. There is a big difference between countries with independent judicial systems, and China where judges are below the local party secretary. Chinese laws are decoration. What actually counts is what the party decides.

In reality, it is very easy in vscode. The difference is, that in vscode it is a easily readable json. Much, much! better than in both emacs and vim. Edit: downvoting doesn't change reality

And we don't burn just any coal. Of course it's brown coal, the worst kind of coal when it comes to pollution. But that's the price we pay for rapidly switching off all our nuclear plants and heavily subsidizing low efficienc

And by doing so, we produce twice as much CO2 per capita as France or the UK. While having one of the most expensive electricity in Europe, because we pay a huge "renewable energy tax".

What do you mean "just" a cost saving measure? It's 3% the cost. So they can build 30 rockets for the price of one. Pretty important detail, when your goal is to reduce launch cost be two orders of magnitude. And no, F9 won&#

I will try to overlook the sexism in your posting. In my company, its not umgingen that someone brings their kid to work. Be it to show the kids what they are doing all day, or because of some logistics thing, or daycare closed or whatnot.

I bought a (cheapish) height adjustable desk. Would recommend. Stand up occasionally and walk on the spot or dance or something. Especially good during online meetings :D

True. I am hoping for a trend where it becomes normal that a kid interrupts some business meeting, or you talk to your coworker or CEO in a video chat while they are cooking or folding clothes or something. Almost as if you were talking to

It's not only about the US need for Saudi oil. It's about controlling the access to oil of friends and foes. Can't be the global hegemon without controlling that access. And it's also about keeping oil being billed in US

That's what the US troops are there for. The US needs the Saudi dictators to maintain their influence in the region.

I trust elected politicians, controlled by checks and balances, more than unelected greedy billionaires only supervised by themselves. How about you?

And why aren't they regulated by laws? This isn't a ban on some small forum. It's basically revoking your passport for the internet.

That's why I would never use any of Google's "social" functions. Never comment on anything controlled by Google. You never know when they change policies and some automated bot kills your account for it, years from now.

Plan is to get a million people to Mars within a few decades. You can only fly every other year when orbits sync up. Initially, I imagine many Starships will stay on Mars as shelter and raw material. Then there is the idea of using Starship

Its 4.5 years to the end of 2024. Not a crazy deadline, but not easy either. Maybe with this, SpaceX will focus more on development of their actual Starship+SuperHeavy, rather than mostly focusing on mass production set-up. Anyway, this it
