It can't be "on chip": data has to get in and out somehow. It's "quite possible" to do a lot of things if you don't intend to actually do any of them.

This _is_ technical argument, and it's not me who's downvoting you. You have to keep this thing fed, and once you factor that in, "5W" and "simple chip" become physical impossibilities.

15TFLOPS at 1Ghz is 15KFLOPS per cycle, every cycle, pipelined to amortize latency. And it's also sufficient cache and memory bandwidth to funnel data in and out of that thing at that speed, and keep the weight matrix close to the comp

But the chip is _not_ simple. You can't get 15TFLOPS with a "simple" chip. Even TPU1 is not simple and it took Google over 2 years to get that from the drawing board to the data centers. Moreover, 15TFLOPS, in the unlikely ev

I wish I could bet money on this not happening "by February". Dude is promising perf that's 25% higher than Titan X Pascal in a power envelope that's 1/50th of Titan X Pascal, and he's promising to do it with a

It's very hard to outdo index funds. Even Warren Buffet said as much. My personal observation over the last decade confirms it. I also trade individual stocks in industries where I understand the underlying trends, and those do outperf

When it comes to tech, totally. They are personally close and Medvedev is a known technophile and Apple fanboy. This is probably something they talked about over tea at Putin's government dacha a few days before.

None of this is a threat to his survival, or indeed to Russia's survival. When you have nukes and the means to deliver them anywhere on the globe in 9 minutes, you don't have to care about aggression from other countries. The bigg

Dude is 64 years old, and was never seen using a computer. Give him a break on this one, he's likely just parroting Medvedev, who in turn is parroting one of his distant underlings.

And worse: in more than one megacorp (including Google in late aughts) I've seen _complexity_ as a requirement for promotion. Google has tried to get rid of that de jure, but it remains a requirement in practice, so people do what they

You aren't investing it well then. This year S&P has gone up something like 20% (thank you, Donald). From 300k that would net you 60k which is 5K/mo. All you'd need to do is rebalance into VOO.

As to what one should track, one should track _results_ if you've managed to accomplish something useful with very little code, that is decidedly better than accomplishing the same with much more code and hundreds of check-ins. Simplic

That would be a bad metric for those "negative" folks as well. Their job is called "code cultivation", and they modify everything in Google's monorepo to make it suck less. Often this is done using automated tools,

Boy will you ever be surprised when he's reelected in 2020. Techies make the same mistake over and over: they think their inflated bubble is representative of the state of the country as a whole. It's not.
