The Pirate Bay is counting down
- yummybear 12y agoI wonder what's been taking so long. The architecture was supposedly raid-proof as I understood.
- callesgg 12y agoThe architecture probably was(kind of), but my guess is that their main technician was not.
- bad_user 12y agoAlternatives exist anyway, including this one - https://oldpiratebay.org/ https://oldpiratebay.org/
- eloisant 12y agoThere are much better alternatives actually, all the torrent sites that already existed before the Pirate Bay went down and don't try to surf on the "Pirate Bay" brand to serve old, static content.
- SiVal 12y agoAny that you recommend?
- waldir 12y agoI normally use the torrentz.com meta search engine and go with the torrent with the most seeds. It then shows me all the sites that have that torrent, and I pick one whose name I recognize. Works like a charm.
- blablablaat 12y agoSame, but you will miss some torrents. Both torrentz.eu and kat.ph are complying with DMCA requests.
- chii 12y agohttps://kickass.so https://kickass.so is an ok one
- burger_moon 12y agoThat's what I've been using lately. They all seem that have roughly the same torrents on each site.
- dtech 12y agoApparently the raid hit the last (?) SPOF, the load-balancer that forwarded the request to the actual content servers.
- bigbugbag 12y ago“We were not that surprised by the raid. That is something that is a part of this game. We couldn’t care less really,” Mr 10100100000 informed TF through an encrypted channel. “We have however taken this opportunity to give ourselves a break. How long are we supposed to keep going? To what end? We were a bit curious to see how the public would react.” Without hearing about the exact issues, we get the feeling that a comeback may be more complicated than most people assume. It seems unlikely that the site will return within the next few days, but if it does eventually come back online people will surely notice. “Will we reboot? We don’t know yet. But if and when we do, it’ll be with a bang,” Mr 10100100000 says. http://torrentfreak.com/pirate-bay-crew-responds-to-the-raid-copies-and-the-future-141215/ http://torrentfreak.com/pirate-bay-crew-responds-to-the-raid...
- cultavix 12y agoThey should try putting the BTC address in a format which you can copy and paste.
- glyphobet 12y agoIt has to be an image, how else would they ensure that it shows up in Comic Sans in all browsers?
- laumars 12y agoNot sure if that was a joke or not, but this problem has already been solved in CSS (@font-face). Though the downside to that would be that they'd then have the issue of hosting copyrighted content (ie the typeface).
- laumars 12y agoWhy on earth was that voted down? It wasn't rude, spam, nor factually inaccurate. I'm getting quite fed up with people who abuse their negative karma privileges. I mean, at least justify your peer moderation with a follow up comment when the reason for the penalty is as ambiguous as it is in this instance. I excepect I'll just get down voted again though, for daring to have a rant about people who do "hit and run" down voting...
- Dylan16807 12y agoBecause it was wrong. It's not a penalty, it's just a downvote. Penalty would be flagging. Honestly sometimes I wish people had to justify upvotes...
- laumars 12y ago> Because it was wrong. ...and once again you've failed to specify why it was wrong. Simply stating something to be wrong is a worthless comment. Provide an reason; or citation if it's necessary. I'm open to correction if you can provide a counter argument. Though on this occasion I can say with certainty that I'm right about Comic Sans being non-free (http://www.microsoft.com/typography/fonts/font.aspx?FMID=35 http://www.microsoft.com/typography/fonts/font.aspx?FMID=35) and that @font-face allows you to include custom fonts into webpages (https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/CSS/@font-face https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/CSS/@font-face). > It's not a penalty, it's just a downvote. Penalty would be flagging. It deducts points from my karma; it's a penalty. > Honestly sometimes I wish people had to justify upvotes... I agree with that too. However that's not the issue here.
- eps 12y ago... and it immediately opened a popup with some sleazy ad. Same old, repackaged. So exciting.
- zo1 12y agoI didn't see any ads.
- digitalpacman 12y agoI did.
- siteshwar 12y agoI see an ad if I click on the page.
- expose 12y agoGet with the times: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/%C2%B5block/cjpalhdlnbpafiamejdnhcphjbkeiagm?hl=en https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/%C2%B5block/cjpalh...
- aktau 12y agoI can heartily recommend µBlock as well, it's low on resource usage (much lower than abp) and blocks nearly everything. I do tend to combine it with ghostery/disconnect to be extra sure (not that ghostery is developed by an ads firm, though they say their opt-out options is legit).
- purzlbaum 12y agoDon't use abp. You should read this trough Google Translate maybe: http://www.mobilegeeks.de/adblock-plus-undercover-einblicke-in-ein-mafioeses-werbenetzwerk/ http://www.mobilegeeks.de/adblock-plus-undercover-einblicke-...

- mike-cardwell 12y agoWhere is the proof that this random IP has anything to do with The Pirate Bay?
- deleted 12y ago[deleted]
- tomp 12y agoThe IP is what "thepiratebay.se" resolves to. I assume the submitter used the IP address in order to get around DNS-level censorship.
- jonnyscholes 12y agoAccording to torrentfreak it hasn't propagated for everyone yet. It looks like so the media are linking directly to the ip address.
- deleted 12y ago[deleted]
- tpbtpb 12y agoIn your console, enter: $ traceroute thepiratebay.se Wait until it's done, then compare the last IP with one given here.
- faldore 12y agoguys, the filename is aes.png and look at the key element "WeAreTPB" I think the text is JyO7wNzc8xht47QKWohfDVj6Sc2qH+X5tBCT+uetocIJcjQnp/2f1ViEBR+ty0Cz
- arcticf0x 12y agoWhat is this supposed to mean?
- bigbugbag 12y agoThat the pirate bay will resurrect in on february 1st to keep the kopimi spirit alive. see: http://torrentfreak.com/pirate-bay-crew-responds-to-the-raid-copies-and-the-future-141215/ http://torrentfreak.com/pirate-bay-crew-responds-to-the-raid... http://torrentfreak.com/pirate-bay-starts-counting-down-to-february-1-150101/ http://torrentfreak.com/pirate-bay-starts-counting-down-to-f...
- sasas 12y agoAutomatically downloaded a file called MPlayerX.dmg when clicking the link. Beware ?
- eloisant 12y agoThat's an adware, don't install it.
- PyroStunts 12y agoIs it counting DOWN or is it counting UP. The seconds appear to be going up
- PuffinBlue 12y agoNo they don't, they're going down.
- jacquesm 12y agoNice illustration of DNS propagation in progress.
- binaryanomaly 12y agoWhat is actually "JyO7wNzc8xht47QKWohfDVj6Sc2qH+X5tBCT+uetocIJcjQnp/2f1ViEBR+tyOCz"? In the html source the file it is named aes.png Is it an aes key for something? Does anybody know?
- jarnix 12y agoIt's the key to add in BitTorrent Sync. In this software, click settings, "enter a key" and then you will have some torrents that people share, but to my experience it was sh*t and not organized in folders etc. Maybe now it's better.
- binaryanomaly 12y agoThanks that seems to be correct. From a first glance it seems to be a bunch of random torrents, pdfs, mp4s I'd rather not have on my hd ;)
- pizzeys 12y agoIs that actually what it was, or did people just start using it after a guess that it was that? As far as I can tell, BitTorrent Sync basically accepts any arbitrary string of decent length as a key.
- eddyb 12y agoNo, that has been refuted to death (on reddit, mostly) - the BitTorrent Sync folder was created much later by random people making the same faulty assumption.
- binaryanomaly 12y agoOk so if it was not intended to be that - what is it? It's 64 chars and likely AES as this is the name of the picture? http://www.reddit.com/r/thepiratebay/comments/2q23mm/the_key_is_an_aes_key/ http://www.reddit.com/r/thepiratebay/comments/2q23mm/the_key...
- h1fra 12y agoMy only hope is that they have recoded their not so powerfull search engine and maybe a new design? meeh
- ricardobeat 12y agoGot a MacKeeper adware popup when clicking the logo :/
- bluedino 12y agoForwarded to the App Store, to some Disney app when I opened the link on my phone
