Tech salaries have been cut in half
- clipsy 3y agoHave they? I suspect in reality it's more of a correction to the early 2020's hiring frenzy, which made a lot of people overestimate what sort of compensation they can command.
- achileas 3y agoForm my own POV you’re correct. The market is good, salary offers I get are normal, everything I see looks like the pre-2020 market to me. A lot of these reddit CS subs are full of kids who are either still in college or graduated into the hiring frenzy, so their perceptions are pretty skewed and they tend to catastrophize. Plus, one weird lowball offer and a weird “explanation” from some recruiter isn’t indicative of a trend.
- baddash 3y agoone person posts about one position paying half "tech salaries have been cut in half"
- relyks 3y agoTrue sample size neglect for real
- 0xy 3y agoI don't see this at all. Offers are down 5-10%, not 50%.
- lazzlazzlazz 3y agoYeah, this isn't true at all.
- mlazos 3y agoJust check levels, the Reddit hive mind is in full effect on this thread. It’s not nearly as bad as they make it out to be.
- gregjor 3y agoNope. We’re either still getting the same salaries or zero. The post is about lowball offers, not declining salaries.
- sunnysogra 3y agoYeah! I also feel the same.
- dataflow 3y agoDo you mean specifically salaries, or comp in general? Like what about stocks and refreshers? Are people getting less (via lower/absent refreshers etc.)?
- chii 3y agoa lot of people count their chickens before they hatch re the stock compensation. Instead of counting the price when the grant was made (but not vested), they're counting the already vested (or soon to be vested) stock, at the current price. When stock prices are high, it looks like your compensation is high, because 3 years ago, you were granted stock compensation that only vested now. Which is why i always want to know cash compensation and stock compensation separately. Otherwise, it's hard to make comparisons.
- dataflow 3y agoThose are all true statements but I'm confused what they have to do with my question. I was asking if people are getting lower stock refreshers than they expected.
