Nowadays the IT world is so huge you have to narrow it down a bit. People working in FANG in the Bay Area do very different things to the helpdesk of your local school district. You should narrow down what exactly you mean. Things like the

Biggest problem I had with Akka was that it was that it worked better with Scala than Java. As Java recently has re-taken most of Scala's momentum its a bit awkward fit.

I know its a trope here, but why are there a lot of devs in Netflix. I'd think you'd need a few dozen people. Plus basically what has changed in 10 years?

Thanks. I've been in the situation before where you complain about your job every day then look around and realize the job actually is pretty good.

How many interviews do you line up at a time? I can only set up a few at a time because I find it gets unmanageable.

My deep seated fear is that some fundamental infrastructure will fail, Database, dns, DDoS, there are so many things that can go wrong. Esp with big old code bases. Many developers really dont care what happens in production, leaving a subs

You're right that US isn't as bad as other countries. US though has higher property taxes, in most states 1-2% of the value of the house each year. This makes houses less affordable, and prevents crazy high prices.

Kinda feel this is just going to be normal. Cameras and storage are so cheap and just getting cheaper. Wouldn't surprise me to see 100x as many cameras in 10 years.

Its cheaper only because container storage isn't priced correctly. If the containers were charged at $HIGH_RENT/day storage fee the owners would pay someone to get rid of them.
