Interesting. I’ve used a Velodyne VLP-32 in reasonably heavy rain with reasonable performance after some error correction. I was on foot and not driving, and probably only for a few hours total. But it seems to me that a big company with se

I would love that! I find HN useful to have backed up on my laptop, for freetext searching offline mostly.

In that case, we would perhaps still be a millennia from the technology required to get there. Imagine the fuel required to get to Mars with air resistance! The materials that would be required to keep the plane from being destroyed by the

My mother often breaks computers, due to how and where she usually uses them (in the kitchen while cooking etc.) I bought her a t420, which cost less than $100. All I did was swap in an SSD. But here’s the thing, I bought two t420s, and whe

Yes! I’ve had to do this at a previous company, while leadership was demoing at a conference, there was a bug that would crash the system. Connected remotely through a debugger and listened for the condition, modifying state to keep the cra

Huh, I guess there are certain aspects of it that may be too edgy for a 12 year old. I had first seen by the time I was 12 or 13, and it left me with a lot to think about in a good way. Watching Blade Runner with a parent who can talk throu

I love this, thank you. It’s a topic I’ve oft thought about, and I’m having fun reading through the code - I was just thinking earlier today that I need to brush up on my C, as I was going through some of my own, old, code, I can barely fol

Yeah this must be it. In my experience new AMD server chips are better in pretty much any way, for most workloads. Everybody I know seems to agree. It just doesn't make economic sense to go Intel for new servers.

Became aware of this after reading Termination Shock by Neal Stephenson! Great book. There's a small subplot involving the Line of Actual control (LAC), which is what made me first aware of these rules.

I mean, all their laptops looks like that, and they have a pretty good track record of following through. I'm in the market for a new laptop, and a 4-5 month lead time is a bit too far out. Maybe I'll purchase one when they'r

The payload doesn’t have to be explosive to be self destructive. Spy gear and weather gear can be the same hardware, I assume the ROM on the hardware and the data collected would be the real evidence. Some well-placed magnesium strips or ma

My issue is there being no credits or sources for the image. Screenshot and reverse image search is certainly a solution on my end to get to that info, but it should be present on the website, probably at the round summary.

This is very fun, but I'm wondering why you haven't included source or some context for the photos? Also, you've disabled right click so reverse image searching them is painful.

I would definitely seek medical advice. Start with your PCP. They’ll be able to refer you to a relevant physician, maybe a neurologist or psychiatrist. Anecdotal, but your experience sounds similar to a friend of mine who’s dyslexic + ADHD.

Don’t you find that leads to unnecessary confusion? I use football if I’m out of the US, but in the US I’ve only heard people say soccer unless they’re being pretentious or recently moved here/on holiday.
