Me too, I think my parents still have their Selectric at the ready in their study. My mom used to fill out carbon-copy forms a lot on this thing and my dad wrote a book on it. It's a rock-solid machine.

My youth: Z80, 6502 Micros I used: 8051, PIC, AVR, MSP430 Mainstream CPUs: 68000, x86 DSPs: TMS320Cxx (no SHarc?) Missing from this list: NIOS II and other soft cores and anything ARM. Maybe they are not supposed to be here.

Much as this makes me happy (I started at hp when this thing came out) I have to say that a phone is not the same as a PDA or other embedded device. A lot of the difficulty of developing on a phone is that the appstore model and ubiquitous

Rasberry Pi and some other SoC-based embedded boards allow on-board development but it's never as much fun as it should be. At the end of the day I prefer some mixed model where I run VSCode or similar on the PC and download/remo

For kids of my generation in Germany (born 1966) fountain pens were mandatory, pencils and ballpoint pens were not acceptable for schoolwork. This was a mixed blessing, while it was nice to write with a fountain pen they didn't really

I couldn't get into The Road either and I know others that feel the same. I've always wanted to try a different McCarthy but haven't yet, maybe this will give me the final impetus.

Wow, I had no idea, thanks for the tip. I've been snatching up old PYREX in thrift stores when I heard the new stuff is no good. Now I know...

I still wonder what the TAM for these kinds of headsets is, even if they are Apple quality. Nausea and dork factor might limit to a fairly small clientele.

Some good memories for me hp, VMS, OS/2, spent a lot of time on those. Also good to see Geoworks in there, I seem to remember getting a $10 "working model" to play with back in the day.

Put yourself in the position of an elite school and it makes a lot more sense: who would you rather get, the student who gets decent grades and worked a part time job during high school or the kid of parents who can afford these signaling a

The interesting bit here is that the partner got a job in tech "right away" and she had to look for a long time. Without that partner - how much fun would it have been?

Yeah, tomatoes are the worst, at this point I'm like rain man OCD about picking up any tomato that falls. If you let them grow they become just medium size medium flavor supermarket tomato bastards.

I'm about to eat some shelling peas I foraged on the edge of a grass field (yeah, we grow grass seeds as a crop here). The peas were last years crop so not exactly a weed but effectively the same thing.
