I've been using it in production for 8 years in Boomla. It's closed source though. I haven't found any prior art myself, so just went from first principles. Take a look at the data structure of Git for inspiration. (Merkle tr

Care to elaborate? How is reading from an append-only file backed by a memory indexed DB slower compared to either 1) a mutated file, or 2) either append-only or mutated raw NVMe disk storage? I mean, what's the trick NVMe can do to be

Is there any performance gain over writing append-only data to a file? I mean, using a merkle tree or something like that to make sense of the underlying data.

For me it’s less readable/pleasant due to too strong contrasts, line-height, font-size. Also, as a result, need more scrolling.

I was waiting for this! Thank you! Consider some parametrization, like swapping dehyped title (better than orig!), and showing/collapsing summary and comments by default. Ideally via url params for bookmark persistence.

Exactly. I’d much more prefer to explore the opposite direction: figuring out how much you can hack the rules of the game. That fosters creativity while the other fosters bluntly following rules.

But there are ecosystems of people doing that research into significantly new efforts. I'm thinking of Idris and Agda, for example. > We need more imagination and more bold deviations from the norm This is what I reacted on, a bit t

The title is incorrect, npm malware spreads through social engineering, not social engineering through npm malware. I expected npm packages to somehow carry the social engineering, like carry a message somehow, but that’s not the case.

You are phrasing it like a universal truth. If this is important to you, do something about it. Otherwise you are just complaining.

To avoid shared mutable state, you either need copy-on-write (hence shared but not mutable) or mutable but not shared. I understand this is the second approach.

Just because it is an immutable value doesn’t mean it needs to live on the stack. That said, I was wondering about a similar thing: what if I modify a 1GB string? Is it copy-on-write? I feel like it can be optimized away 99% of the time onl

This is not tipping. Tipping is giving money without being asked. When you are asked, it is called begging.

Advice that's generic to some may be novel to others. I'm currently in the phase where I have been struggling as explained in the article and I'm looking to do sales now. It was great reassurance to read.

The only real difference is that Verisign makes more money than omg.lol, hence they have more resources and incentives to not screw you over. That, of course, has incredible weight, and indeed I'd not trust omg.lol while I do trust Ver
