Unfortunately, we live in a world where everyone is judged by these factors, and so in order to achieve your ideal world, we must actively encourage participation from people of marginalized demographics.

That's actually a false dilemma. Both are compatible goals. The idea is that the more people with these skills, the more innovation can come from it. On that note, I don't believe "sacrificed quality" can come from an in

But maybe old people shouldn't be living alone in a giant house. Maybe we need to establish rules where their children - or a community - are more incentivised to take care of the elderly than the elderly are incentivised to isolate th

I've been working at startups -- small and medium -- exclusively since I got in the field. I don't know if I'd have it any other way. When I visit my friends at the big companies, something about the rigidness and massiveness

But the technology for these speeds were available 15 years ago. The ISPs did not offer them or build them out to consumers, and this attributed to the lack of competition. Without Google trying to enter the scene, most internet consumers w

This might be a bit off topic, but it seems folks still want to use the word "disenfranchised" in the wrong context. To be disenfranchised, it means you have lost the political privilege to vote. It is not a synonym for "disi

Right, that was my suspicion hence my uncertain language about it. Related to that is my praise of California. It's more mockery than anything. Our state does not know how to write concise legislation. ;)

Somewhat related, Montana may have beat most states to the punch so to speak, but theirs was actually just an executive order (which can be reversed). Washington, too, has already got a start on this, but unlike Washington, California looks

Some corrections... Tokyo is not a super dense city like New York. It has half the urban density as New York and doesn't even show up in the top 20 most-dense cities. You also cannot put Los Angeles and Brasilia together. Brasilia has

I agree that the person who leaked the memo against Damore's intent should be punished similarly (and I hope Google did). However, the death threats and misrepresentations of his text were not simply a factor of it being published glob
