We have a newspaper with close to 1000 articles running on Jekyll. Site generation speed is low, but acceptable.

IMHO conversions between various “error types” are quite common when gluing together different APIs. Like when you are chaining a handful of Result-returning calls and there’s one in the middle that returns errors using Option.

If they own the rights they can do whatever they want to, but that doesn’t mean we cannot consider it worrying. In fact, if we consider some of their actions too worrying, we can change the copyright law to better benefit the society.

Considering that Elm seems to be by far the most stable, usable and used alternative, just dismissing it for the lack of typeclasses seems a bit short sighted to me. Is this a case of avoiding success at all costs? :)

Statistically speaking, the doctors were probably right. The guy taking the chemo effectively traded a better chance of survival for worse short-term quality of life. (And lost the bet.) But yes, it’s good to know the chances, so that you c

I still don’t think this is a good solution because of the common CNLabelContactRelation prefix. It would be better to introduce a CNLabelContactRelation enum? Then the enum cases would be much less painful. Or at least an empty enum as a n

No it doesn’t, agreed. But I imagine the design constraints for a notebook vs. wireless headphones are pretty different. I am amazed that the thing can be built at all.

But that’s an argument against all wireless headphones, right? They all need a small battery with limited lifespan. After that, you either return the device for recycling or replace the battery. The latter sounds like the more environmental

It would be interesting to ask Apple how much they manage to recycle from the AirPods and how. Would that be asking too much from the article author?

Jesus, that’s a really bad article, spinning some truths, irrelevant info and memes into hate. Most of what’s written applies to all wireless headphones, wired headphones or even other consumer electronics. Also, Apple has a recycling progr

I expect a lot of franken apps not fitting into the system. As a developer, I would be happy to write a new interface for each platform. If only we had not bottom-raced software prices to levels that make it hard to create an app, let alone

UX for laptops/desktops was solved in the early 2000. In the early 2000, my music library was a few dozens GBs played back using mpeg123 or something. Nowadays it’s a Google Play Music subscription. Things have moved to the cloud, a

I18n is something like security, it takes a lot of effort to get right, people often don’t know that their assumptions are subtly wrong, and getting them right often requires using a more complicated solution. No wonder programmers just cop

FWIW, I have been running a local newspaper (both digital and print) for the last five years. There is _no_ competition to speak of whatsoever. There are papers allright, but practically none of them make serious journalism, they just do wh

They don’t have to do anything. But then the society may feel like it’s hard to compete in the ad industry and start breaking the oligopoly down. Which, I think, is the main reason Google does this charade.

I don’t think so. How does Google replace the journalism it helped to destroy? How can a single entity with its own political and other biases replace a vast, diverse network of local journalism?

The main problem is that this just does not scale. Facebook and Google have damaged the business model of local media all over the world – now how can they fix that by reintroducing local media to a few towns below 500 thousand people? If t

I think “deeply nesting components” means dropping a stateful component (view+behaviour+state) anywhere in your app without anything else changing. That’s not possible in Elm since the only place to store state is the central state storage.
