It is subsidizing inefficient cities and land use, causes massive environmental harm, and the people that benefit the least from subsidized driving are the poorest people. If it is such a universal good that benefits everyone and people are

Mostly agree, but disagree slightly with number 5. In most places, it is illegal to build any denser. Town zoning laws are notoriously slow to change such that they do not keep up with the market and actually codify a lot of these problems

It is estimated that millions of animals per year are killed by cars in the United States alone. Seems like it happens enough that people should be driving slower and watching for it. I'm not sure what that should be called, but '

People in general are bad at driving and the potential for harm is much higher in a car than a bike due to the kinetic energy involved. Read about how complicated human visual perception is, how cognition changes at the slightest distract

I don't think they are banning ICE cars--just new ICE cars. Anyways, simultaneous with electric cars being a big thing, e-bikes are taking off. Many European cities are wonderfully suited to e-bikes, so that may take the pressure off o

My understanding is that hard seltzers are mostly made in a fashion similar to beer. They use cane sugar rather than barley in the fermentation process.

That was indeed an interesting read. To be fair that sounds more anarchist/hippy commune than what the article today was about.

I didn't read this as 'completely isolated community'--the author writes about a rail station. Also if it is as idyllic as described it would be swamped by tourists.

A refreshing read. Most 'modern' towns are loud mainly because of vehicles and lawn care. It is interesting to think about a town built around not needing those things.

Part of the reason for the cost of living there is the cost of housing being high because of artificially restricted supply. Why live there? Plentiful jobs and mild weather seem like good enough reasons.

LVT would make it much more difficult. LVT does not value based on the improved properties on a site--in the purest form, it is a tax based on the land alone. A vacant lot would have the same tax as a lot with a tall building.

In the US today usage based taxes such as gas fund only half the money spent on roads. They should probably add in some sort of usage tax based on weight/size/emissions/noise that will apply to all vehicles.
