Purely anecdotal: I feel like it used to mean 9-5, and somewhere in there you'd have lunch. These days I think it's more of a (misnomer) term for 8 hours of on-the-clock work, and most people are expected to go something like 8:

That's true. I still can't quite believe that although family sharing is a thing, and collections are a thing, I can't share a collection. I want to add books to a "Kids" collection and have that collection shared w

No. Technically a year is the limit IIRC but I have heard of issues with even six months away. It's at the discretion of the immigration official as to what constitutes abandonment of your permanent residence.

On the other hand, reverse roles for a second. Try opening a bank account in a Western country with a real Chinese name and you don't even get to the "fun" part. We have to put up with some language gotchas; they're forc

I pledged a fraction of this fellow's total in Star Citizen, probably the lowest tier that would result in a digital copy of the game once complete. I was after a modern Privateer reboot, essentially, and figured it was worth the gambl

Wow. What do they expect the take-up rate to be with that kind of vote of no confidence from the people who commissioned it in the first place?

I don't begrudge Apple their quest for thin and light. All else being equal, of course everyone wants that. But they have three portable product lines: the MB, and Air and the Pro. Surely the point of that is to allow them to different

I'm generally pro-immigration, but with a population of less than 5 million and a housing affordability crisis, 70k a year simply isn't sustainable.

One of the main reasons I will be strongly encouaging (read: insisting) my fortunately-dual-national kids to avoid university in the USA. It was staggeringly expensive when I went to US college in the 90s. Now it beggars belief.

I wouldn't put any value to those perks. The average use of that 100GB storage is likely to be a very small fraction of that and all will cost pennies or less for Adobe to provide. Yes, if you just so happen to be in the market for all

I think you're talking cross-purposes. All else being equal, higher density has the edge in many aspects. But the smaller cities need to build themselves up, rather than (in the tech industry at least) everyone flocking to the one or t

One of the things I miss most about HK, having grown up there, is just how far you can get in a (roughly) straight line without touching the ground. There were parts where you could go for 10-15 minutes at a stretch, and that was ~25 years
