Have you ever tried sending money abroad? With BTC/ETH/USDC it takes seconds. The whole process is entirely transparent. It doesn't get blocked if you reach some threshold. And the fees are smaller than with the traditional b

It's not possible to block C2 without also helping censorship on the Internet. Whatever mechanism is used to hide one traffic is going to be used by the other one, and reversely. Morally, the question is which one is the most important

Look at the ratio instead: 4k open vs 162k closed. Or 4k open vs 80k+ packages. If we split things up, there will be less open PRs per project of course. But I doubt the ratio will be much better. It will actually increase the number of PRs

AWS Control Tower is great to set all of this up. It's basically a layer on top of AWS SSO, AWS Org, Cloudtrail, AWS Config. With some sane default security policies.

It seems odd that `scalar` is not a sub-command of `git`. Does anybody know the reason behind this?

I have had cases where Terraform would OOM because each Terraform provider instance maps to a fresh new Go process. Most of the time this approach is not an issue, and it works really well. But you need to be aware that it's best to ke

That's the life of the package maintainer. You get grief from users that complain about upstream issues, and upstream that doesn't like you reporting issues to them.

Oracle and Document Foundation are coming from different places. I don't know if it's fair to compare them like that. One reason that Oracle lost control of their projects is that the motivation behind is clearly profit-driven. It

One question that often comes up on HN is how to make open source sustainable. This is one avenue that will allow funding of open source applications. What we found out with Spotif, Netflix, ... is that people are willing to pay for a conv

For a more modern iteration of that idea, check out https://github.com/nlewo/nix2container It has all the benefits of OP but produces the images much faster, and with less on-disk usage.

For those who don't know; LtU is a programming language design treasure trove. It has been around for 20(?) years. It's a great place for curious minds that like to explore and discuss new ideas and go down less trotthen paths. Hi

There has been a bit of a pause while tazjin was exploring how to use Nix as a monorepo build system, together with Gerrit. Now that this is done, he recently started writing a new Nix interpreter that will better scale for big repos. I don

Exactly. Each software has a shape that makes sense, in the eye of the creator. That shape might change but it has to stay internally consistent somehow. Unlike companies, we don't have to eternally grow the software to satisfy every c

The best thing to do is to decide where your boundaries are, and then tell them. I was in your position many times. I was so frustrated to feel like the other person was entitled to my time. Then I had to fight my urges to tell them to fuck

The next evolution will be a shared build system. If the builds done by the developer can be cached and shared with the CI, CI's role is lessened to just a gate-keeper. Most of the time, the cache is already warmed up by the developer&

If you want the convenience of having pre-packaged build, pay for it. Or get the source code for free, and build it yourself. What's the problem? Pay for convenience.
