I'm off uber after a BS "5 minute" issue. I've been using it for years, they literally had to burn so much goodwill to get me to stop using them, it's almost impressive.

I'm not bothered by the fact that these guys got investment, it's an interesting idea and could have been a great kickstarter. But, $120 mil is a staggering amount for a company like this that should have relatively small startup

Super interesting for Microsoft to be releasing this narrow of a product. Don't get me wrong, there's probably a market, but Salesforce would never do this, for a big company it's a platform play, let a partner build the tiny

Hi! We're the builders of Nines, looking for some feedback. At a super high level, nines addresses some problems with uptime monitoring solutions (such as the basic ping service that New Relic provides) by 1) allowing you to send probe

The way they harvested the sugar involved burning the fields (I believe after harvest, but could be wrong) which lead to unusually high levels of respiratory illnesses on Maui - I think this is net-net good, but like the rest of the country

One thing you don't really mention here, but it's mentioned a lot in the comments, is the data extraction piece. Is data extraction a pretty solved problem at this point, and it's really the intelligent cleaning, transforming

I was just at slush, and I think one of the startup finalists was working on this problem, though honestly, it's a pretty foreign problem to me. The company is ShipWallet: http://www.shipwallet.com/ Article about the

Lots of discussion here - is there any more hard info? Statement from the CEO, press release, something like that? Could be innocuous, the first company might be a major shareholder in the second, or similar.

One of the issues with blockchain solutions in general is they usually DON'T mean proof of work. It's generally a proof of stake solution, which is honestly not that much different than some sort of certificate based system.

Ya, this is kind of silly. I'll actually say - before this election I was all about a Blockchain / electronic voting system. After Russia and Wikileaks and everything, no way. The paper based, locally run elections are incredibly

Hacker News doesn't have the churn that means other news sites are always different when you visit them...perhaps you could call that a downside, but I actually really like that aspect.

Is it just me, or is C# basically becoming Scala (or, insert your favorite functional language here). Don't get me wrong, this is awesome, .net on Linux, dockerized, is all good, but these moves definitely show Microsoft responding to

Auth0 does a good job taking some of the pain out of integrating authentication, but I tend to agree. I have a nice couple of templates I use to bootstrap side projects.
